Very tragic indeed. Unusual circumstances in Belgium this kind of sudden almost tropical storms...climate change and all that. Hailstones the size of tennis balls reported that caused a lot of people, who would have normally withered the storm, to seek shelter in unstable tents and drinking stands located underneath the trees.

5 deads, 3 still fighting for their lives.
A miracle only one person died (so far) in the château tent which completely collapsed. Also death(s) at the camping site: a light pillar fel down on a couple of peoples tents...no chance at all... This event will certainly overshadow any future Pukkelpop events (if the festival will even survive this mess).
I'm usually there, but this years line-up was absolute horse shit to be honest. Was going to go on saturday.
In the completely collapsed château the Saturday line-up included Untold, Mount Kimbie, Ramadanman and Hudson Mohawke. But as I said, that tent completely collapsed...

I know there shouldn't be any jokes made. But I had pondered this though:
Storm hit 15 minutes before Skrillex was supposed to start: guess not even mother nature wanted anyone to hear that shite...  crucify me for making jokes...

At any rate: thank god they cancelled the rest of the festival. No point in partying and drinking beer at a place were hours before many lost their lives through a series of unfortunate and freak circumstances. No festival at all on the world would have withstood that kind of storm...

this is horrid... After this, and the thing in Indiana, I hope the bloody organisors get called out on it... If you've got weather warnings forecast (presuming they did), maybe an outdoor festival isn't a fucking top notch idea.

I don't think you understand the scale of things. This is a festival that has 60.000 visitors a day (and sells out months beforehand). The forecast reported possible thunderstorms LOCALLY. So it was almost impossible to predict where it would happen and the severity. Brussels, the capital, was hit about an hour before. But that storm wasn't nearly as bad as this one...I say it is a freak accident and the organisers aren't to take full responsibility... this couldn't have been predicted.

these kind of storms do not belong in Belgium: the whole day very hot weather, 15 minutes later: a tropical storm that destroyed several tents that should withstand 5 beaufort! Shit like this doesn't happen often in Belgium.. something is seriously wrong with the climate.. but yeah we all knew that.

The strange thing is: 2 hours before the storm hit, I saw a documentary about hurricanes on discovery channel saying that tropical storms would increase by 10 to 15% in the near future. I was sceptic, but 2 hours later not anymore..

Chill out man it's just a couple of storms this isn't the end of the world climate change episode people have been talking about.

This is not normal in belgium, it was very good weather, everybody wearing bikini's and such. Half an hour later, this happened. Pukkelpop (pkp) is a very well organized festival, the security is great. All the people on the festival got out of the tent on a pretty calm tempo, everything went great for the evacuation. But we lost 5 people, we have more then 60 people with fractures, but it could have been much worse. They cancelled the festival, and they managed to get all the other people safe at home! I'm very happy that nobody from my friends we're hit by something.
Some sources say there are already 6 people dead.
:(
R.I.P ;(

More video-footage here: http://www.nieuwsblad.be/article/detail ... aalid=1371

Holy shit, I have never seen such weather over here... I live 120 kilometers to the west and we just had a short shower of like 10 minutes...
It's like the apocalyps... So sad that of the casualties.

I'm so upset, man. When I heard that people actually died I completely lost it. It was so awful being there. I only got my camping equipment ruined so fuck it, I still got off lucky. It's a real test of character, though. Shows exactly which people are worthless and which aren't. There was even looting and worthless pieces of shits going through the whole fucking field collecting all the alcohol they could find to party. On a lighter side, all the wonderful people who helped each other were great. It was so nice to see strangers share everything they could.

Last night was terrible too, man. All our clothes were wet and I had to share a wet tent in the freezing cold without a sleeping bag. Only had a vest, a pair of pants and another vest covering my feet to keep me warm on a single matress. On my way back I was soaking wet.

Still pales in comparison to what the family members of the people that died, man. It was one huge party and the first evening was seriously one of the most fun experiences I've ever had at a festival, ever. It really ruined the week. All the stories I heard and destruction I saw.. I'm so glad that me and my friends are alive and well.

Most fucked up thing is... it didn't SEEM so hard at first. People were bodysliding into the puddles and having laughs having no idea what kind of shit was actually going on. Most of us didn't know until were returned to our tents.... dunno how to describe it, man. It was just chaos and seeing so many sad and crying faces around you, God...

^^^ seriously, without wanting to sound like a dick. Belgian festivals always have bad weather (granted, none as bad as this). But on an occasion like this one, best thing to do is take a drug of preference that will help you through the night, gather a few mates and don't go to sleep at all....sleep wise, it won't make any difference and at least you're less focused on the shit going on around you.

That's what I would have done anyway...

but anyway, sad to hear your trials and tribulations. In a perfect world, everyone would have just enjoyed themselves...freak fucking weather...I've never seen anything like this in Belgium in 25 years.
