but to see who contributed to this forum in early days, you can just go through this list here: http://dubstepforum.com/memberlist.php - most of the names before 2007/8 are (IMO) reliable and credible enough. Don't know how many fake artist names are signed up though...

anyone with >>>>>>>><<<<<<<< under their name is verified as the actual person; although that doesn't necessarily mean that they're imposters if not. mostly it's only the really big names that have that sign to their name because we'd be adding people forever if we went by youtube hits/souncloud followers etc to decide who's big enough to add

wake up people. anyone that puts considerable weight on youtube clicks doesn't see the full picture of how google works, and why about 5 years ago, when YT was going bankrupt, they changed the whole system to in effect line their coffers. go to any massive "dubstep" channel on YT, and click through a few pages of their subscribers, and you can see for yourself.

when someone you never heard of blows up on YT in 1 month, i'll wager that 75% of that is paid for....
http://www.socialmediadd.com/YouTube_Ma ... s_s/51.htm
http://www.socialkik.com/youtube.html

you can buy 10,000 YT likes for $350 at the moment. 100,000 YT subscribers can be bought for $3000

interesting, i've only just been turned on to the whole idea that youtube pays you for a certain amount of views you get? (am i right?)

so if you pay a promotional site for fake viewers and things like this, how does it affect youtube paying you?

google adsense pays for a small percentage of how many "upload" clicks you get on a video. they will pay you a percentage of profits, but very little if you don't have the key combinations of : loads of clicks, loads of referrals, all within a certain amount of time with global reach. if you have all those combinations, you can make some decent money. Google has also changed the auditing system for Adsense, so that it can sniff out the bullshitters. For example, if you live in Brixton, and have a video of you doing yoga on YT, and you go to Facebook, and tell all your friends (most of them living near you probably) to click the video, they now won't tabulate those clicks the same way, because they can geo-locate those referrals to the brixton area, where the video was uploaded to their servers. so if you have a YT video thats only hot in your hometown, thats not the same as having a video with global clicks from all over the shop.

the problem is that VEVO on YT, the video system that UMG, EMI, Sony and Google settled on during their massive lawsuits, to try and offset music video's losses....is not audited by third parties. so for example, Lady Gaga's VEVO:

"Bad Romance" has 419million views (or so they want you to believe)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrO4YZeyl0I

Lady Gaga's official Vevo channel has 1.8billion views and 1.1 million subscribers
http://www.youtube.com/user/LadyGagaVEVO

Since no one but Google and Vevo know how many of those subscribers or clicks are bullshit, how are we all supposed to just swallow that Lady Gaga is truly as big as she is on YT? Its in google's interests to not divulge auditing, as they now make shitloads on Adsense.

Regardless of whether there are bots or humans clicking these videos or not, I wouldn't say that the whole thing is rigged, but definitely shady, and definitely worth all the skepticism in the world about the state of the music industry. also, take a good look into some of these YT driven "Dubstep" empires that blew up lately, and make your mind up for yourselves.

When I joined in 08 Skream still posted regularly in General... I've personally talked to Mount Kimbie, Kuedo and Synkro in Production, and I remember James Blake posting in Dubs once or thrice... it's how I found his myspace (yes it was that long ago). So yeah... Pros used to post here, they probably still lurk under fake names (if they come at all).

I once used Vagex, a youtube auto-view bot where people submit their videos for views. The more videos you watch (Vagex will automatically switch video every 30sec) the more points you get to use on your own videos, with these points you can get both views, comments, subscribers and favoritings. When I used it I got referred to a VEVO music video, the real deal :W: So yeah, they use bots and such for their videos actually..
