Don't feel you have to use a 16 note loop. I've seen a few acid jams with just a 3 note loop that are still hypnotic as fuck.

Check something from Fabfilter. I use their synth called One a lot for acid sounds, and the resonance is very nice and squelchy and sounds great with some saturation. I like their filter sound... the resonance is the most important thing I think, because that's usually where you can tell if it's a real 303, or a bad emulation. A lot of resonance sounds thin and plastic.

Really any synth, just need to be able to automate the obvious envelopes and shit.
