A hoover is not detuned square waves, that's still a reese. A hoover is just PWM.

What, people still confuse hoovers with reeses? A reese with square waves is still a reese. A hover is a Square(actually pulse) wave with Pulse width modulation.

actually a saw with pulse width, which was rare til virtual synth. This was why the juno alpha was so sought after for a while becuase it was the only synth to create the sound with that distinct classic hoover texture. plus the old roland chorous was had a very unique sound too.

What I read in an interview with Noisia was that they rarely ever used synths. They said they record actual sounds in their surroundings, and then sample them over and over.

they do do that ^ they use reaktor and kore instruments also though

oh, i forgot to say this:

noisa is always combing white noise (as well as automating the COLOR of the white noise), and saturating at least 10-15db with analogue style saturation. band rejects with high resonance and automation will really morph the sound as well by adding shifting harmonics.

Awesome bass noisia, everyone is getting over complicated you don't need to resample over and over, heck you only need to bounce once at times, but you do need to apply fx ( resample ) to bef it up just some simple lfo, env modulation especially filter modulation, notches sweeping through sound sometimes gives that moving feel, I'm not sure exactly what bass your referring to as I can't load anything at the moment, but here is a bass I made just now, is somewhat like Noisia Contact ( Noisia Remix)

Thats not really anywhere near, has none of the harmonics, just sounds like a distorted mess to me

it's pretty easy to sculpt the harmonics and distortion you want with FM8. I know people go on and on about it, but you'd be suprised how great FM8 is for those kind of sounds. It's not noisia per se, but who cares? if it sounds gnarly, it's gnarly.

I've been playing with the Phase Modulation in Thor and then automating like 3 notches and scream 4 body all at the same time.. gives kind of a koan sound...sound

lol, yeah phase distortion (the logic plug) also works great, so maybe I'll look into phasing a lot deeper see if I can create a phase distortion myself

not meaning to hijack the thread and be controversial, but i really think this kind of sounds getting overdone atm in dubstep, i love dungeon but i think the market for its getting saturated right now

I disagree.

Only a handful of producers can do the twisting reese bass properly.

This level of sound design is hard to accomplish and therefore not every single shitty producer can get anything close to this intense sound. Not enough people are doing this in my opinion. Also, reese basses are absolutely the next step in dubstep. Until some simple vst comes out like massive that is built for only reese basses and every producer gets their hands on one and starts producing these sounds.

Cause now all of these producer have caught up with what the best producers on all levels of production. The only thing that separates us is our sound design. The cycle rinses and repeats every 2 years. I bet will be looking back on Koan & Noisia and reminisce the days of when dubstep was good until everyone caught up and started making shit.

none of those have, but i didnt have them in mind, i was more thinking of kryptic minds etc, i think people are seriously jacking that sound right now, theres a load of producers who make dungeon and it all sounds indistinguishable from one another in my eyes ( or ears to be more accurate)

And anyways I totally disagree for the same reason as ephyks did, the sounds in dungeon are insanely hard to make, and each producer has their own style of doing it. You could tell a badklaat track apart from a jakes track anyday for example

that plug is so sick, i still miss it from the ol' logic days. does anyone know a vst alternative? there has to be one.
