Toast, Sp, lx one and pokes are the only decent mc's nowadays. it makes me cringe everytime crazy d ruins a tune with his out of time lyrics like hes slurring on valium. Its almost as bad as DT back in the garage days.

Theres a couple of old FWD sets with youngsta where the mic is too loud and he ruins every drop with some daft garble.

as has been said less is more, don't 'mc', host.

but some practical things

-turn bass EQ down a lot.
-always stay behind the speakers. (not literally, that'd be silly)
-don't turn the mic up if someone's already set the level, an excessively loud mic WILL ruin a night.
-take your own mic to shows.
-don't let 'that guy' show you how much of an amazing MC he is.
-don't call for a rewind, unless the crowd clearly want it.

THIS

Also, don't tell the dj he can't use the effects 'cause you've already got the reverb on your mic channel.

you go: "when i say something; you say something else"
then go: "something"
then get the crowd to go: "something else"
and then go: "something"
and then get the crowd to go: "something else"
(if you can time this just before a sick drop it will be 100 times more awesome!)
:4:
also...
you go: "oggy, oggy, oggy"
then get the crowd to go: "oi, oi, oi"

- Call for a rewind on every tune multiple times, even if its a dubstep remix of the Vengaboys

- Make sure the mic is at least 25% louder than the music (bonus MC points for triggering the limiter on the rig)

- Only have one set of lyrics and repeat them ad nauseum.

- If you're starting out, corner DJs in the toilets and MC at them - a captive audience!

- Remember to shout for the soundman to turn you up every 5 minutes even if you're redlining the mixer

- Even if you speak like royalty in day to day life, adopt a strong patois for authenticity

- If in doubt, make animal noises

Follow these rules and you should be set for life :W:
