this thread is a perfect example of the embarrassingly ignorant, patronising attitude this forum has towards black culture in the UK. none of you are any good at parodying the accent or vocabulary so unless you've got a job writing another instalment in the 'Kidulthood' continuum, I'd give up.

in some part i agree with this.

in the way that if any other culture was ripped on as much, it would get taken very seriously.

and i wouldnt say "black culture" really, its just that side of youth culture that gets majorly slated on here, colour is irrelevant imo.

ripping the piss out of the way people talk is out of order. especially seeing as how alot of people who started this whole scene are very much part of that culture.

the fact the slang has been appropriated across the country doesn't mean that there aren't clear racial associations when ppl start mocking those who listen to and partake in a music scene which is rooted in west indian immigrant culture as inarticulate and violent.

my problem isn't with the idea of taking the piss. my problem is with the ppl on here who do it incredibly badly.

and noone in this thread seemingly had any intention of attending the night, so how much of their hysterical claims towards grime being a violent music genre are rooted in experience, and how much is rooted in the lies they've been told by the media and police. the two groups most ppl on here claim to distrust the most.

The thing is though, the grime scene comes across as inarticulate and violent and if you are white then why talk like youre from jamaica. Plus its a joke so theres no need to get your knickers in a twist over it, blud.

It's probably something to do with the lyrics in grime tunes.
"In school I used to hit boys with a ruler" and other such violent tales such as "oooooooooooooh crack your skull, leave you fucked up in a wheelchair"

Who needs first hand experience of the working class, minority britain and innercity youth culture when we can be told all about it by a white 30 something oxbridge journalist with sneering inaccuracy.

do you apply the same literal standards to all the music you listen to?

if music centred around lyrical self representation strikes you as inherently inarticulate that says more about how you perceive the people making it than the music itself.

there's way more 'jafaicanism' in the dubstep scene than the grime scene.

I wonder what 'bad' implies in this sentence.

Point being is grime music quite often has violent lyrics accompanying it. That's why people have claims towards grime being a violent music genre.
I was being facetious (hit boys with ruler. c'mon now) but if you want to try and tell me that the grime scene doesn't reflect a violent lifestyle (and therefore help perpetuate it) go right ahead.
