Digital vinyl system - built mine for 180 quid or somthing I think and its never crashed on me - would of been cheaper but I wanted ms pinky timecodes that spin at 45rpm.
most clubs still have 1210s, and you can bring your own DVS with you - thats what people like pearson sound etc do. bit of a cafuffle setting up DVS in the dark so buy a torch and learn the signal path inside out yeeee.

I saved up and got a 1000mk3, 800mk2 from ebay and an allen and heath xone22 new for about £1,250..
If you really want/need the decks its not hard to cut unessential shit out of your life.. like going out on the piss etc..
still though, i wouldn't reccomend buying anything other than pioneer. at least the 350's or something they are decent.

I've had the Numark NDX800's for quite a while now, and although they are not of the most sturdy construction, they've served me well. I'd recommend having a look.
Played on pioneer a few times and thought they were a bit crusty/shit, though that's probably just club maintenance for you.

basically you get what u pay for. Whilst Pioneers seem expensive, you will probably have them for 5+ years, and use them every day. So it's worth shelling out for.
EDIT - Also, I'm not one to push credit usually... but you can get Credit Cards with 0% for 12 months. 1500 over twelve months is pretty manageable if you're in full time work. There's sites that do 0% finance too, if you pay a big deposit, say £500 then you can pay off the rest over 2 years interest free
