there was a massive article in said paper actually, i dont know, a lot of them are residents who have been there since before the night-life explosion and gentrification i think. its pretty grim when you think about it, these people suddenly are contending with hammered city heads every weekend, people throwing up and pissing all over the place, rent spiralling upwards...

I was thinking the opposite, that the people complaining were likely to be trendy upper-middle class folk who've moved there recently without really thinking about the area properly.. 'I hear Shoreditch is the place to be these days, shall we move there?' 'Yeah sure, why not. What, this place is noisy? Call the police!!'

blatently there'll be a degree of that, but the article certainly framed it otherwise (not to say that thelondonpaper is gospel!)

but in any case, shoreditch as an area of creativity is kind of dead already no? even before bars get shut down. its still got some sick clubs but the place itself is so gentrified now, its just quite standard. how many grass roots creatives can afford (or squat) spaces there now?

I dunno, you still have brick lane and stuff round the corner, still a few great spots around There seem to be a fair few squating opportunities around the largely empty office space around commercial road etc too, but I don't know too much about that scene.

yeh from what i understand all that stuff is shifting north-east and further east, but im hardly an expert!

but without the clubs, the trendies moving there and so on, the area would still be a dive and the house prices wouldnt be going up as much as they have been.

its a licence mixup thing.. complicated to explain. but it'll be back soon. nothing to do with the local residents.

despite having just left london for good, due to finishing my degree, this is awful news

herbal was one of the best clubs london had. so many sic nites there, especially metalheadz

i hope it reopens cos good music needs good venues like this

man that sucks. herbal was a nice likl venue went there for nye hospital party n the other hospital ones. dnb was sick there was always a fat night. its a shame cos it wud have bin a club that cud have done the smoking ban well cos of its terrace. wot a stitch

It is a squeeze in Herbal, had good times there, wont miss it too much tbh.

Not sure it would as an inclosed space defined by the legislation has to have at least one open wall. Or rather three walls and one open open space and no roof. As it is, it has 4 wall's. Even though it does not have a roof it is still concidered by the law to be an inclosed space.

nah man, the roof terrace has four walls and therefore a enclosed space, that's what metalbox is saying

and that law is ridiculous. you'd do more harm to yourself breathing the grotty shoreditch air up on that terrace than you would smoking a cig.
