sorry if i sounded a bit pissy last night, bad night. i know that look when you tell people that you do politics, it gets better once you get to MA level though. if you are going to go with the self-determination question i would write to your tutor - quite a debatable topic - and as such i would find out their stance on the issue at hand and tailor your answer, and certainly references, in line with their thoughts. i hated the idea of doing that for the first two years, by the third i realised that that's where the better marks are. which uni are you at?HRKRT wrote:it was more of a comment on peoples perceptions of what a politics degree is, usually because of a disillusionment with politics and it relating to them. a lot of people tend to pull a face when i tell them. obviously i do care about my degree and take it seriously (well try to). but some of the modules were bullshit so i do stand by that to some extent. there was a marx module which basically involved a guy at the front ranting for a lecture every week, then 2 hour seminars sat in a room with 20 wannabe che Guevaras. i just found it fustrating. absolute bullshit and i dont use the term lightly... dropped out of the module. conflict, development and human rights theory is where its at: majority of the political philosophy modules here are shocking.sirjonnyp wrote:did a very similar essay to this in my second year, but never call the degree i did bullshitting, i was one of the few people in the whole year who was actually interested in the subject rather than doing an easy 'bullshitty' degree. My lecturer was Annika Bergman Rosamond, who, as she was from the LSE side of things, was very up on her international theory. fascinating subject, she just wasn't very good at getting that across to a lot of the class.I ended up getting a 2.1 in that module, completely down to the essay. Really nice question though, so much stuff to talk about, examples and theory to bring in. Shame you only got 3000 words though. Good luck with your bullshittingHRKRT wrote:haven't been here properly in ages!
know how much you lot love chatting bullshit, so why don't you help my get my degree in the art of bulshitting aka undergrad politics
2 essays 3000 words each in for monday
1) DO NATIONS HAVE A RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION?
Cheers!
anyway it was an offhand comment, youre making me feel guilty for hating my degree now![]()
Your teachers work on cosmopolitanism looks interesting and relevant, but theres a book shes done about post 9/11 security that might be great for my dissertation. thanks for the heads up.
I'm only just part of my way through 2nd year, but I've constantly had a shit ton of work to do, that's what I get for doing nursing though!icanicant wrote:^ i aint back till the week after that I just have a horrific amount of work to do. 3rd year is way different to the first two years in my experience
Yeah I complain but tbf anyone doing nursing or medical degree seems to be on a whole other level. Prob coz what you will do with your degree is actually importantLiam92 wrote:I'm only just part of my way through 2nd year, but I've constantly had a shit ton of work to do, that's what I get for doing nursing though!icanicant wrote:^ i aint back till the week after that I just have a horrific amount of work to do. 3rd year is way different to the first two years in my experience
There is a massive amount of work and it does become extremely stressful when you've got essays/exams as well as 12 hours shifts on placement and all your paperwork for placement to do too hahaicanicant wrote:Yeah I complain but tbf anyone doing nursing or medical degree seems to be on a whole other level. Its good as long as you make sure you pick good modules(basically if they mention the EU then refuse lol). It is a lot less focused on institutions than at A level which I didn't really expect but is a lot more interesting.Coppola wrote:I have to write an essay about what is terror for my A level Politics. only needs to be about 1000 words tho hehe
got another one about whether war is inevitable from realist and liberal perspective.
How do you find politics at degree level?
