shit i wish i never read this thread now. its depressed me cos i always play
this tune to non-dubstep mates to show them how creative and varied
dubstep can be.

hes still ridiculously talented and i still love his tunes but wasnt he supposed to have used
a preset for oskillator as well??

how often does he use them exactly?

anyway i guess your right hatsudai. its a bad tune either way

The version I heard of this a while ago had this weird snare.
It used to throw me off bigtime, now its change. Love it!

there is a 10-page thread on the use of presets in 2D, please get over it and don't send this one the same way. Love not hate people.

P.S. i did the obvious search for "2d" but nothing came up, i find it almost impossible to actually search this site...seems to bring up every thread made

It's too short to be searched. Most forums need more than 3 letters to be searched.

i had no ill intent by making this thread, was actually hoping SNL was using 2d (although i don't know how they'd get their hands on it). still think it's a sick track regardless of the use of presets. i've heard NI presets in DMZ tracks, it doesn't bother me. i know what these producers are capable of, so this in no way makes me think less of their production skills.

Solomon said it best, there is nothing new under the sun.

If the tune sounds good to you, it seems quite pointless to go on a negative flex, just because it was easy for the producer to make.
A little tune called "Valley of the shadows" springs to mind.
Or Mampi Swift "The One" (So called as it took 1 HOUR to make).

That's just my double penny.

haven't heard this tune but...here's the thing about presets. they usually sound stupid. if you happen to find one that doesn't, use it. is the melody a rip off 2? or just the patch.

You hear it as it comes out of the blue matrix synth. It is exactly the same. The melody, the sound.

This always goes back to the same 'if it sounds good use it' arguement. This is weak, you will never push things or better yourself by doing this it will just make the genre stagnate. I know most people don't understand this as they just care what goes into their ears and not how it came about. This is fine, I don't know good ballet from bad ballet or a £100 bottle of wine compared to a £10 bottle of wine but surely it is up to Skream to not just say 'fuck it this will do'. It was mentioned that he was a bit like 'i'm not sure whether to let people hear this' well to be honest if he was thinking that then he should have kept it in his studio until he was happy and confident about it as a piece rather than just letting it go. No quality control!

Seriously people, get over the fact that Skream used a preset from a synth, imo the dude has written enough fucking blazing tunes to be above petty criticism like this.

Either you enjoy the tune or you don't, leave it at that and quit nitpicking, it's ugly.

i also come from the baltimore club scene, where a remix is sometimes no more than a loop from the original track with a think break, shuffle, and an 808 kick. he's already done more with the tune because of the thick bassline and drums he added to the line. don't think you're being very objective about this tune. if you don't like it, fine. but you don't have to drag skream through the mud because he used a preset.

Here's the thing - presets are there for a reason - to be used. If they weren't, then all soft synths would come with 250 init patches only. It's all about having the knowledge to build around it and create something that you can call your own. This happens every other day in dnb, so not sure why it's such a big deal in dubstep really. It is, and will be a big tune. End of.

Exactly, its one track in a discog of, fuck knows.

He has no ego about it, happily confirms it as a preset.

the worst thing that happens, is you have somthing interesting to dissagree about with other fans, and you have to stop dancing for a while.

While i was at a Nu Mark gig, i had to completly stop moving while he played the original sample to "jesus walks" i dissagreed with palying this as a straight attraction thing with Kayne being so big, the reaction of the crowd annoyed the fruck out of me, both are tracks i dont really like.

Moral to the story, i live on.
