Grimes - Visions

really needed a mention here as well. Again this won't be for everyone, but I think it's just a very fun album yet with a certain depressing/nostalgic edge to it. Hard to describe, you'll have to check it out for yourself.

"Genesis", "Oblivion" and "Nightmusic" are wonderful tracks and the stand-outs as far as I'm concerned.

I really liked Chairlift - Something but haven't decided whether or not I'm embarrassed by this yet.

+1, though personally I would qualify this as house forum material (I believe it has a thread there) but yeah, warrants a mention here too.

Emptyset - Medium

Third full album from the Bristol duo James "Ginz" Ginzburg & Paul Purgas under their Emptyset moniker. As with the last one, this one sees a release on the quality Subtext label (run by Ginz and Pinch) that also released Roly (Vex'd) Porter's ambient promising debut "Aftertime" last year.

It is actually a mini album with only 5 tracks (still considered an LP). And it veers even further away from their techno and dubstep roots displayed on the first album. Very much slow noise/basic channel experimentation but with a heavy sub bass kick to it. Hardly any structures left to grab on to, just throbbing electronic minimalism. If you enjoyed their previous output, don't rest on this one. Fans of Scorn, 3 by 3 records etc. will also find this quite enjoyable.
woah, I had no idea ginz was one of emptyset's members. mind blown. i love the first two records, can't wait to hear this one

hmm I only own the first Voices from the Lake called Silent Drops EP. Though that is a quality release, I found it to be a bit monotonous...how does the album stack up to that EP?

i dunno man. im a big fan of the drawn out, ambient soundscape kinda of stuff, so itf thats what your classing as monotonous then it might not be your cup of tea. the sound design is world class tho.

i'm abit of a dozzy fan boy tho so im probably a tad biased

I like the atmospherics/ambience, like in the third track, it is the beats section that comes a cross as monotonous, not necessarily because of the pattern, but because of the style, which is exactly the same on all three beat induced tracks.

Julia Holter - Ekstasis

Easily my favourite full length release this year....just magical sounds. Beats her debut and I adored that.

This. Lovely album.

Been quite quiet for full lengths so far this year though, apart from the John Talabot album I can't think of anything else that really grabbed me. High hopes for the Beach House album though, really like the single off it.

Yeah the Talabot album was the only other one I could think of.

Definitely looking forward to the Beach House LP, and kinda hoping the Best Coast album will be good too - I enjoyed the title track they gave away the other week.

Talabot gets votes here too. Though I don't think the album is consistently good, there are several ace tracks on there.
