when did this name get made up and by whom? if that is really what they are calling midrange dubstep these days it's a good thing. maybe people will stop making up new names for old dubstep (future garage, post- whatever, etc...)

Porter robinson sounds like another classic OC rich boy who plays around on his mac.

i may be wrong here but i think complextro is more like electro house with added mid-range "filthy" basses and lots of glitchy editing and all that. it takes some sound design cues from the midrange stuff but in terms of beats and all that it doesn't have much in common with dubstep (aka the beats are 4 on the floor with snare on 2 and 4 as far as i have heard). again, not really my area of expertise, but i don't think it's a replacement term for dubstep (would have been convenient, though).

But I would argue that Skrillex and that lot are just all of that with a 140 bpm halftime beat, so basically 140 bpm complextro.

i don't disagree necessarily in terms of what they sound like, but i think the complextro thing started developing as a result of the influence of guys like skrillex and all that on the progressive/electro house scene, so i think followers of those scenes keep a distinction going there between complextro (maybe porter robinson as mentioned before? wolfgang gartner? that type of stuff?) and the us mainstream strain of dubstep (skrillex etc). i may be way wrong, though. this is just how it's been described to me and what i've picked up in hearing some tunes. i think there is a lot of crossover.

You're a year late. It's been here for awhile now...and it's been big in America.

"Complextro" came from Porter Robinsons myspace couple years back. People just started calling it that.
