Seems like we're after the same house records Looks like Discogs is the only place you can buy this right now, and the prices are bit steep, but it's worth it.
Also here's the Kerri Chandler essential mix for everyone who hasn't listened to it yet:

can only second Kerri Chandler!
I honestly don't know too much about House music but further I can only recommend Moodyman/Kenny Dixon Jr. and Theo Parrish (esp. his Ugly Edits which are more soul/funk/disco oriented)
and listen to Elgatos LWE podcast from about 1.5 years ago or so, that very mix got me totally hooked on house and housey garage (so I'm rather a novice there...)!!!

Theos Ugly Edits, man, those really are ugly edits, especially the Little sunflower/Motor city one! Essential Vinyl though.
Yeah, Parrish, MCDE, Omar S are good ones to look into for a quality Dtec/House sound.

These are my absolute favorites, please take the time to listen to all of them.
Many thanks to you, THE SEEKER

This thread is insanely overwhelming, who taught you people to make recommendations? Guy asks for something to get him started and you give him a list of like 30 labels and 100 artists. Do you really think that's the best way to introduce someone to any kind of music?
I'm in the same boat as Sonika, my collection of house goes about as far as Daft Punk, Danny Tenaglia, Deadmau5, Zinc, Justic, Joy Orbison & Boddika and some Ministry of Sound shit. Can anyone recommend me one or two essential compilations, albums or split-track mixes from the last 5 or so years?
If you want older ones go back to 4th season 2004 an so on.

Its overwhelming because house in general is overwhelming, i cant even begin to count the number of QUALITY tracks that come out on a weekly basis..and thats just within the subgenres of what i purchase (deep & tech house). Im not even gonna get started on new labels that pop up from established producers weekly as well. Its only natural for listeners to list off more than the OP can handle, but personally i'd rather have more to choose from than less if i was just getting started for something as vast as house, im sure he can pick out what suits him and what doesnt.

On the subject of decent (preferably unmixed) CDs, does anybody know of any decent House/US Garage CDs from the mid-late 90s??

The artists I'm into are pretty similar to OP, deep / dungeon-y dubstep stuff mostly. I'm also quite into post-rock / ambient music, and I'm looking to get a bit more into house. Quite liking Nitin, Vincenzo, Kellerkind and Claptone, what are some good labels / artists to check out? Maybe some mixes as well, always need more material for tube journeys
