Definitely changes a few things... however, even thought it is a little misleading it's a good cause and it proves that the internet can be a force for good and change in the hands of the right people, so I'm fully behind it.

Yeah I'm fully behind it too, obviously he stands for the right things, but he comes off as a bit twatty when he's sticking the camera in his wife's face while she's giving birth, making sure to film all of the emotional moments, etc etc etc...it's a bit corny/cheesy

Uganda has been allied with the US, and has been a supporter of the War on Terror for a while (and Kony's group are on the Terror Watch list). While I'm sure this is also a justice thing (since the US loves to do that), I think it has to do more with the African Growth and Opportunity Act...which as long as the money actually helps the peoples of the nation, I'm cool wit it.

Just to clarify. Kony's been committing these atrocities since before i was born. For someone to throw a Youtube video in your face for you to give a shit is where the problem lies

Im starting to see some dodgy stuff about all this
dj snaps wrote:For someone to throw a Youtube video in your face for you to give a shit is where the problem lies
I think the point is that most people were previously unaware of Kony and his atrocities, you can't complain that someone has brought it to our collective attention

Can't really comment on the financial side of it, but I know what he's saying about the "placebo" thing, or at least in some respects. Slavoj Žižek deals with this really well in this video:
Žižek says we need to change the way society works and the way people think in order to overcome this, and I really think this Kony movement will go some way towards doing this, so I'm willing to support it.

I'm not complaining at all. Im saying that the masses being previously unaware of someone massacring/child abducting/raping etc for over 20 years is the problem

Despite whatever will come through about Invisible Children, I think the cause is just...it's people actually trying to do something. Just so happens that Kony is that something.
I'm behind this campaign, regardless of his salary.

No offence but 20 years ago I wasn't really bothered about massacrng/child abducting/raping. All I cared about was shitting in my nappy and crying.

It does seem a bit suspect if you ask me, appeared overnight out of nowhere. I find it funny that so many people find it now SO IMPORTANT when they couldnt've given a fuck yesterday if they saw it on the news, now its hashtagged its their main priority.
With that being sad, im not saying we should sit back and not take action. The man is obviously a monster.

People seem to think killing kony will put an end to child soldiers, it wont. There are thousands of war criminals all over the world just like him, but no one is going to do do anything about them. Yes, kony needs to be stopped, but i think this invisible children organisation is doing it wrong.
First of all as a person from Northern Uganda, I would like to thank you, the Martin County Children for your effort to assist the children of Northern Uganda.
How ever i am also sad to say that Organisation like 'Invisible children' have turned from caring organisations to Fraudulent and scam. The directors of Invisible children forgot what they stated back in 2005 and have now turned to greed. Only less than 25% of money they have been raising in the name of the children of Northern Uganda gets there to the children.
The directors of Invisible children have turned this money to become their very personal money. The directors now drive expensive cars and refer to themselves as Movie directors. They have been shunned by all international Northern Uganda associations in Canda, UK, Sweden and even in Sandiego USA.
Associations such as "acholi in diaspora"(canada) Acholi association(UK) Freinds for Peace in africa(USA). Peace in Northern Uganda group(Sweden). "Campaign to end genocide in Northern Uganada)(USA) and many more.
"invisible children' functions are boycotted by many ugandans who are aware that they recieved bribes from General Salim Saleh to focus the suffering of the Northern Uganda Children to the Rebels...rather than tell the whole truth that both the rebels and Uganda government ave comitted atrocities and Genocide againts the acholi people of Northern Uganda..
Northern Uganda members of parliament have added 'invisible children' to their list Of NGO's under investigation for fraud.
They have been requested to publicly declare their accounts since 2005 however untill today that has not been done.
Your contributions are better off being sent directly to the children in Northern Uganda rather than to enrich the directors of 'invisible children'
However we leave it to God to be the judge. Thank you and God bless all of you

My point is that why should it take a viral video on Youtube for us to take notice of something that's been happening for over 20 years? Shows you how fucked western society is. Instead of doing your own research and being knowledgeable of what's happening in the world around us, the masses are watching x-factor and worrying about who's poking who on Wastebook. And another thing, everyone's jumping on the bandwagon and donating without giving a single thought to where the money is going. Do they know that only 30% of their donation actually goes to the people of Uganda? And that the three leaders of IC alone earn a combined salary of $262,287 a year?

If a positive action is the result, surely it really doesn't matter what the catalyst was?
Most people can't spend their lives researching atrocities in foreign lands... it is certainly disappointing that it takes a viral YouTube to alert the masses about something like this, but it's not really surprising given that most of the masses have to spend their time thinking about personal issues like putting food on the table and raising their families. The idea that nobody should spend their hard-earnt evenings and weekends relaxing because there is evil in the world really is a bit silly.
A less pessemistic mind might equally conclude that we've finally reached a stage where we can share information this easily... 20 (even 3, actually) years ago it would've been utterly impossible to inform the entire developed world about something like this overnight - now it is possible, people are taking advantage of it to fight for justice with the Arab Spring and this KONY video being pretty effective examples. Rejoice in the progress your species is demonstrating!
Equally, the effect of hitting everyone in such a short period of time can't be ignored... if the People learn about something in ones and twos over the course of a decade, they rarely get anything done about it - there aren't enough passionate about it at any one time to influence a government into action. If tens of millions are alerted overnight to something, they tend to have a loud enough voice to get something done.

Yeh i completely agree, although i don't spend my life researching about what's happening. As you pointed out, it takes literally a few minutes, seconds even to find out about these things via the internet. And somehow i still manage to put food on the table and raise my son..
People just make me laugh on mediums like facebook and forums, yesterday they couldn't give a shit about what was going on, now everyones posting a video about it and they think theyre a modern day mother teresa. Plus, 3/4 of them give it the talk and won't even do anything about beyond their computer screen.
There's always hidden agendas behind these things. Beside the fact that a pittance of the money donated actually goes to the cause they think theyre donating to, IC are openly advocating military force, from a regime that oppresses their own people. The whole hype around it is retarded
