Soooo do peeps think that if you have a sample pack of snares, you layer 4 of them, then you've made your own sample....cause that doesn't make sense to me, you've used samples, so you;ve sampled-standard.
It all depends on what you view 'sampling' as. Sampling a drum hit thats half a second long can surley not be seen as being worst then sampling like a 20 second film sample, or a 16 piano riff.
I'm sure most big producers have their own sample packs which they delve into for the majority of their tracks. i have battery kits pre-made, and pre-made patches in my virus.
I work full time, so i don't have time to literally sit there for hours on end trying to conjur up some snare sound from thin air, you have to delve into some samples and biuld from there!
does anyone have this producer pack? is it any good? the sample track sounds alright.

It's like my papa always used to say about sample packs:
like em or hate em,
THIS THREAD IS SPAM!

i think it's safe to say most people might use and layer a few single drum hits from time to time and think nothing of it. shit the whole of 'dance' music lives off sampling. i dont really think there's anything wrong with individual hits if you're manipulating them for a new sound but i dont think theres much credibility to give when you're just loading pre-made loops like a bassline or string selection. and i think its a different thing when you're using sound modules/refils/ soft synths etc. again, you can still develop you're own sound from the very beginning. you might start with a pre-set but the final sound wont be the same. how many ms-20 b-lines do you wanna hear??

hey this is the production section - so wouldn't some people look here for things like sample packs? some people use them, some people don't - all my drums are sampled, half of them i didn't even sample myself, some of them I stole - get real peeps, give the guy a break

Who cares wether or not you use sample packs.
It's not what you use, it's how you use it.
And the final product will show that.
So if some kid off of the street buys this pack and thinks he'll be king shit, he's probably going to put out repetitve shit that is clearly looped, but throw a pack into someones hand who has talent, and something good will mos def come of it.
It's not the journey - it's the end product. It's not life we're talking about here! We all want to make bad beats, and sometimes some tools can give some incenetive and help.
If you suck, aint no dubstep sample pack gunna help you, so who gives a shit wether or not this gets used or not?
Listen to the music and enjoy.
I know for myself I've used some loops out of sample packs - it still takes patience, time and skill to put it all together.
Admittedly, buying a sample pack deducts some style points vs. following someone into a church while recording thier footsteps (ie: burial)

Wouldn't pay £25 for something that looks like it's been designed by an 11 year old.
With the right image - you could do alot better. Might entice people to purchase too.
Nevermind the actual samples - whether they are great or not. I'd say a fair percentage of people will see the image, and just ignore the whole thread.

All my drum sounds are sampled from different house and techno tracks, I just make them dubby. Anyway, what's the difference between using a drum machine and sampling a sound created by a drum machine? I can't afford the cool drum machines, so I just sample the sounds from the rich people.

The more people that think you can "just add *slaughter*" and poof, a tight track, the more originators will stand out.
The saving grace of endeavour (mixed in with dedication, talent and chance/fate).
Re: Movie sounds. I am always discovering another producer has sampled Robocop (Burial [The part where ED-209 malfunctions during a meeting], Aphex Twin, Dj Spooky)

Im new to the group, I like sample Packs . They are a great way to get the sounds right when you are doing tunes in a genre you are new to. I for one am removed from the Hub of the dubstep scene namely, the Uk. A sample pack at least lets me get the Bass sounds right so I can do the drums. Sometimes I need to get the right drum as in speed garage so I can concentrate on the patterns. BTW IF I use a sine wave what Hz should it be for dubstep? 60 gives you an 808 like boom ! For dubstep if im trying to make people shit their pants what should i go for 50 ?

for me a great producer makes me wonder how they managed to get a particular sound...hearing a bate sample from a sample pack in a tune just makes me cringe. same if you hear a synth preset or somethin...
