Tech Itch certainly brought his sound to the bpm.

i actually thought the tech itch dun pretty sick with what i heard from that mix pt2. pretty abstract and heavy beats, the sick production is granted.
the overly "dark" style was a bit much tho which kinda turned me off his recent dnb stuff.
i just hope dubstep doesnt become too concerned with production geekness at the expense of its soul.

Everybody, has different tastes. The one thing I don't like about alot of dubstep is it isn't dark enough. To each his own I suppose

Most dubstep is a lot darker than tech itchs dnb tracks - they're just hard and angry, which I find really off putting. But as you say, that's a taste thing. Source Direct were the masters of truly dark drum and bass... taking you to a different place.

Tracks like Stonekiller, The Cult, Exit 9, Generations etc... No big, growley, midrangey over the top nonsense. No needless aggression... just brooding atmospheres, tight drums, sinister bass, with the level of intensity constantly building.
I see the difference between Tech Itch's later stuff, Limewax, Evol Intent etc and Source Direct being like the difference between teenage slasher films and proper horror films like Rosemary's Baby and Don't Look Now. Fair enough if you like that sort of thing, but I don't think that sort of sound has a place in dubstep.
I shouldn't have to qualify this, but once again, not hating here... haven't even heard the Tech Itch dubstep track yet.

I’ve not heard the Tech Itch track either, as I’m on a shitty dial-up connection here. But given what’s been posted on this forum, perhaps any D&B producers having a crack at making dubstep should take the Pepsi Challenge approach and get their tracks dropped without disclosing their identity – at least then folk can judge the music on it’s own merits…
I appreciate and understand the importance of roots and have a lot of respect for pioneers of a style, but to me a good track is a good track, regardless of whether someone has been following the style since the day dot, or whether they’ve been on a gravy train somewhere else knocking out stuff cos it sells.

Ah, the power of subtilty. That's the reason I can't get into "dark" dnb these days (w/ a few exceptions)....it's ummm, i dunno...too obvious.
Btw, that's a great analogy w/ the horror movies, UFO.

"dark" d&b from the likes of tech itch and dylan is only what I have been able to get away with for the past 4 or 5 years. Wont listen to and D&B these days unless its come (or similar) from the therapy sessions mix. Bit of a bastard that I live in the north east mind.
I welcome the horror to dubstep with open arms.
lets get nasty people
