If you mean me, I have teh mk5's, 1k+ vinyl, a (admittedly broken at the moment) Tascam x9 mixer, sennheiser hd 25's and about 9 years experience mixing, but can you find me some sarato for 10 pounds please??

I would say that it's cool to get a copy of ableton or traktor and have a blast mixing up mp3s. gets you thinking about the music and really listening to it. plus, how many folks go out with a student loan and buy a mad expensive technics setup only to leave it on the shelf after a couple of months?
I would LOVE to have a proper dj setup and thousands of records but I have bills and food and shit too. traktor cost me nowt! DL, buy, mp3, vinyl... do it all! practice on the PC to get into it THEN go out and buy the stuff.

word keep doin ur thing... its all about mastering the way u do with what u do - whether that be vinyl, cd decks, traktor/virtualDJ, ableton live, whatever...
dont matter what u do it on IMHO, as long as it sounds good n u doin ur own thing with it! making the most out of whats there for u to do with the tunes.
in the end its just about the mixes, ideas etc....
I do my thing on my cheap ass setup too as I can't afford cd decks, proper decks, etc.... my setup = laptop, atomix virtualdj console edition, cheap ass hercules mixer that I hang on my neck when rinsin it (so i can dance while im mixin up!) + 320s that I buy off the web or get off producers/labels... suits me very fine! its never as good as vinyl but dont need to be either as i cant afford decks nor fit them in my room!
but yeah one thing i'd say , learn to beat match even if u doing digital... ableton live is awesome when u do ur thing with it correct... but best start first with traktor/virtualdj/whatever, that you pitch the tune yourself with.... when ur cool with beatmatching, then it doesnt really matter if u let ableton live do it for u and concentrate on other things...but to start thinking as a DJ i think its good to start with beatmatching urself rather than letting the software do it for you ...
