lol
They finally sent me a email outlining whats going on, Release dates and a contract. They even directed me to a place where I can get the mastering done for £15 per track, I checked them out and the quality is good.
I did send that email on a weekend and now it's Monday I have some descent information from them witch is understandable.
Im going to go for it. £45 for a release, to get out there. It could move on to bigger and better things.
Thanks for the advice everyone.
Look out for my first EP.

Still though, if someone said wanna release an EP? and then said you gotta pay 50 quid to do it. Unless its like some fucking big boy label who I'd be blown away to be releasing on, who get loads of people eyeing up the new releases, I wouldn't pay that haha

What are you talking about? Everyone said not to do it and you're still following through. You're not supposed to lose money on a release.

Have you heard of any of the other artists they have released? What kind of exposure did their tracks get? If possible, can you talk to the other artists and get their feedback on the label, and how they were promoted?
They're not picking up the Mastering cost...so what are they doing?

Still trying to comprehend....
You asked :
Light-Stories wrote:So I have been talking with this label for a few weeks, sending them tracks and whatnot.
They said that they want to release a few of them on a ep. They want me to get the tracks mastered. They said that if i send them the masters they will send me the contract.
...
what do you guys think?
and were answered:
dididub wrote:
Labels should normally take care of the mastering. Sounds extremely dodgy.
hudson wrote:You're getting ripped off by the label. If they're making you pay for your own mastering then I can't imagine what they could possibly offer you. This doesn't sound like a real label to me.

This!

Labels invest in artists, not the other way round.

But somehow we still ended up with :

I hope I am wrong - but my gut says you are being taken advantage of... there are always plenty of people willing to "sign" you as long as you front the cash. Same goes with those bogus gigs where you are responsible for selling X amount of tix otherwise YOU pay. Getting a release for the sake of getting a release with a charlatan label isn't nearly as important or game-changing as you might think.
EDIT -- Also - what was in the contract?! Because you might have been double screwed here... legally promising exclusivity of those tracks to the label who didn't pay for them? Usually the contract states how the label will pay for the mastering, artwork & manufacturing costs - plus X amount for the advance... and in return, you promise the tracks to be exclusive to the label for a set amount of time. The label has provided NONE of that... so what terms are being agreed upon in the contract???

Yeah dont sign anything until you have had someone (if not us) check it over, you could get royally fucked over and not be able to get a release with other labels for 10 years or there could be a clause which is designed for them to be able to take you to court because you cant meet the terms or whatever. I've had labels aproach my band back in the day that tried to do this, be clever man.

seriously, take heed and our advice. Don't do it.
Your first release wont catapult you into another league, in fact its about doing it multiple times... I would seriously hold off and contact some other labels if you are feeling confident about your work. its about consistency and quality that gets you noticed.

This; even though I said opposite to most; if its your first release; make it special! Don't just send it to an 'anyone' label.

Hey bro, you give me $100, I'll master the tracks AND release them. Same goes for everyone else! I offer group signing discounts - $10 discount for each additional guy signed, 11th guy free signing!
I think you'll find these are the best rates in the biz.

humm ok.
Maybe I wont do it then if you guys are saying all that.
The name of the label is BomBeatz Music
Maybe I should wait for a better label and for my tracks to get better. Thinking about it maybe my tracks are not on the level yet if i cant attract a label thats willing to pay for mastering. I do want to build a rep for releasing good tunes.
I just got all excited about releasing some tracks.

TBF, I have heard of them and I do recognise quite a few of the artists they've released;

My only comment would be that they seem a bit jack-of-all-trades in terms of what genres they release, but that's minor.

They are a group of labels and the release schedule if full for the year for two of the labels. They have some of there releases featured on beat port. I dont have any contact information for any of the other artists on the label to get feed back. I have had a quick listen to some of the tracks they have released, some of them im not into but a few of them are pretty good. They have had 16 dubstep releases.

Get your music released man its a good oppurtunity, like Depone said it usually takes a couple of releases right? So get your first in the books now (if you are feeling confident about your music, it will be around forever now, which is pretty cool)... Just because he didnt aqct incredibly formal with you doesnt mean your going to get royally fucked over, lol, just be cautious of what you do, like you would anything else involving your name and rep.
