Great idea. Fucking hyped for this. I'm willing to contribute writing articles and the like if you need. Big ups.

Barefiles was always pretty much exactly what it said. Bare files.
A load of old classic mixes in one place is never going to be a bad thing. Personally though I would say the best way to do it would be to have whoever the people in charge are as the ones who upload all the mixes, a) to keep out clutter, and b) possibly in combination with reuploading the mixes somewhere safe, protect against dead mixes marring the whole thing
Got a fair few old ones, my computers kind of a mess though...

Having people in charge only uploading could be a good idea, but I definitely think users should be able to submit whatever mixes they have and then the mods or whatever can decide if they're quality enough to be uploaded.

not only dubstep, there's too much great music out there to keep it one dimensional. keep the suggestions coming, this site is for the people! what kind of filters/tags would you like to be able to sort/search by? should uploads be approved before going live? 320 standard where applicable? (sorry rinse)
where all my alpacas at?

It shouldn't be limited to just old mixes and shouldn't be limited to just dubstep.

yeah pretty much. But was also thinking they could potentially upload them to their own server to stream/download from. Just so as to hopefully make the site a bit futureproof! Dont want no megrrupload fail!

standard
we just want a place for files that won't be lost. our main mission is to make music from today, yesterday and tomorrow available to all

320 for mixes is a bit much...
As for tags, I think genre and artist name are good enough.

320 is a bit much? wow, two years ago people would have complained,,, people still complain about rinse and they're better then they've ever been lol
the assumption was that people who enjoy bass heavy music would want as much low end as possible without getting too crazy size wise
for tags, i think year would be a great addition... maybe even a space for the contributors name?

Just my opinion, and its only a 2 cents really as I havent got anything to do with this, but I dont think it should include recent or non dubstep mixes. Theres a million places (or just...google) you can go to to listen to good mixes by good artists. Would just make this project a small version of what everyone can find anyway. If it was to be a nostalgic barefiles reminisce it should be just all those classic mixes that defined dubstep for years. Ive got a load of mixes from 2006 or so that I remember absoloutely sessioning back then. Where you know exactly what the next tunes going to be and when its going to get dropped. The kind of mixes that make tunes on their own sound wrong when they dont mix into whatever is next on the mix where you first heard it!
Mine thoughts yah!

You rarely get mixes in 320 and they'd be way too big (guessing somewhere around 200 mb for a 1 hr mix). Not saying there shouldn't be mixes in 320 uploaded, but I don't think strictly 320 is a good idea. I personally don't have any old mixes that beat the 192 mark.

I agree with Ultraspatial on the bitrates. All 320 all the time is just too much to ask.
And I think allowing mixes that aren't dubstep should be considered. I think having just bass music in general would be great, but I can see the reasoning for just having dubstep stuff too. Idk, whatever it ends up being, I'm sure it'll be great.

So is this strictly about the nostalgic aspect or is this just a place to share music?
I have nothing to do with this really as i also have nothing to give to this site, but i would personally like different genres across the whole 'bass music' banner. UKG, Grime, UK Funky whatever! Not just dubstep.
My 2 cents really.
Still big up for doing this, was never there when BareFiles was online but from what i've read it sounds really sick!

Imo recent mixes should be uploaded but not xfm, boilerroom, fact etc stuff that can be found easily.

320 only would be overkill and keep off a lot of older stuff, but sorting by bitrate would be fantastic.

i think a big motivation behind this is for archival's sake, and that means storing in as high quality as is practical. obviously a lot of mixes, especially the old ones, aren't anywhere near 320, and that's fine, i just don't think we should be making anything lower quality than it is. but if something is lossless, then i think we should convert it down to a 320kbps mp3 (since most people cant tell between 320 and lossless anyways). let's be honest, the difference between something like 192 and 320 is only a couple tens of megabytes; i think that's space well spent for saving a bit of dubstep "history"
