Don't take my statement the wrong way.

I swear by my MDR-7506s. A top quality pair of cans, and I've seen them go for only about £110.

I have these aswell but I prefer the DT990's for music, they are more comfortable and I like the stereo imaging more. The bass response of the 7506's is a bit boosted compared to the 990's imo. I might be a bit biased as I only use the 7506's when recording SFX so I'm not used to them for music. I did use them for music when I first got them, just to compare them. I found them a bit more fatiguing.

Fair enough, you're in a better position than me to compare.

What I would say, though, is that bass response "boosting" doesn't matter too much as long as you know what your dealing with.

If I'm building a track for a large system, i know that what I'm hearing on my speakers is not what I'd hear at the club. What's important is knowing what sounds right, by having reference tracks and by listening to music on your monitoring setup frequently.

It's not a negative fact that one pair of monitors represents more low end than another pair.

Yeah I agree with you, I wasn't bashing them as their are nowhere near bad. They are infact great headphones, it's just that I prefer the beyers, mainly due to their comfort

I hear loads of people bigging the Bayers up, so something must be good.

I tested the Beyers vs Audio Technica for an hour before buying the Audio TEchnica ATH M50s.

Beyers were WAY heavier on the bass. My friend who was with me is just a casual listener and he went for them because we had different needs in headphones.

I went with the M50s for producing because they had a super clean but flatter sound and were still very comfortable.

Either way, you'll love both of them

This. Deeper bass respone =/= inaccurate or non-flat sound.

A lower frequency response perceived as 'flatter' is just a lack of responsiveness to low herz.
Well not always but imo this is the case with the M50s.
You think it's flatter but it can't go as low as the Beyers.
So in the end you're producing music with more bass to compensate.

In my case it doesn't matter much because I also use studio monitors and reference multiple speaker types
