getting introduced to non-dance electronic music, aphex twin n shit from there the whole idm thing and simultaneously starting to get into dnb with all my peers. hard breakcore and was like shit i gotta do this, amen edits sounded like the audio equivalent of cool skateboard tricks to me.
first got fruity, hated that. then ableton LE that came with a nine inch nails remix cd, plus the stems. kinda messed around with that but didnt really enjoy it. suddenly: logic. been mashing together sampled hardcore/metal riffs and amen breaks for 2 years then i got into dubstep.

school was always boring me to death and music, especially digital production is a virtually endless hobby so i ended up not going to classes and fucking around with plugins instead  the thought that i will never be able to learn everything is what keeps me going, because that means i will never stop being able to improve myself and stimulate my brain in the process.

5 years (or so) later i still havent finished a tune 8)

It was either this record:

or this record:

That really got me into synthesizers. Plus the moods and grooves are so good.

got interested when i heard the intro of scary monsters and nice sprites, got a closer look into fl studio and got drowned in the colourfull world off plugin's what pulled me in further. after that i didn't progress n didn't learn stuff i moved on to ableton which was a huge boost to my music knowledge :)

I was always an FL user. But when I started Full Sail I got Pro Tools & Logic and FL doesn't have a Mac version so yeah. I struggled because I hate audio-based DAWs but a few months in I bought NI Maschine. Never look back at FL now.

First i thought that it would be cool to have atleast 1 tune thats made by me.
After messing around bit more i realized that its hard to create a good track.
After learning more im fucking frustrated trying to make a good bassline and track, mad to my computer and mad to myself...but i can't stop doing this :)

I see a lot of beginners get frustrated because they go in thinking it only takes 30 minutes to make a track you hear on MTV or YouTube. Take your time, it doesn't even need to be finished in one session. Make a melody or good bassline and continue it another day. Don't discard it because you can't come up with a drum pattern in 45 seconds or find the right sample.

Was in a few bands where I ended up writing most of everything and they all unraveled over time so I figured I would enjoy making music at my own leisure much more. Turns out I was right.

I've never been thinking like this, but i know ppl that really think it is that easy and when i did show one of my projects to couple of em, they were really amazed that it isnt just kick snare cymbals and synths put together...

Like on YouTube you see all these hip hop producers like Bangledash, Lex Luger, Swizz Beatz, etc. showing them making a beat in like 15 minutes. People don't realize these samples were already pre-picked and all set up. And with editing, it makes it seem even shorter. I live in Virginia and got to see Timbaland make a beat once. He'd made a few drum loops all different but with a same flow. Talked to some guys and and was on the phone for about an hour. Came back. Got his piano guys to come up with some melodies. Messed around for about 3 hours doing random shit. All the pointless hardware he uses instead of using the much easier software versions rustled my jimmies. But it was probably 6 hours. Wasn't 15-20 minutes like you see on YouTube.

but ive had a piano and an electric keyboard since i was youngin, never had real lessons tho, just dicked about by ear, after learning djing at 16 i felt i should start learning production, tried fl studio because a former friend showed me cool shit on youtube, i never really made anything til i was 17, hardstyle to be exact, and at that time all the djing had already planted awesome ideas in my head but i just never really knew how to properly apply them lol :H: anyways, overall just the knowing you've created something for yourself to enjoy and eventually many other's to resonate with as well was a good enough reason to pursue it. but yea, 3 years later, here i am still kinda amateur but it's progressed :4:

I used to play guitar, so I was already pretty interested in music. I tried my hand at making beats in FL studio a few times but i never really took it seriously.
One day I got on my computer and I saw a new video uploaded on UKFDubstep (Back when they actually posted a decent tune every now and then :6: ) called 'Blood Red' by Feed Me. I listened to it and fell in love with the song right away, and eventually decided that I wanted to make music like that. I've been a huge Spor / Feed Me fan ever since. I'm still hoping one day I'll be able to make tunes of that caliber :D

when i first got into production, I hated dubstep quite a bit. The first two tunes i was shown were ginger pubes and sierra leone, which lead me to think the genre as a whole was wank (i was quite wrong). I was another guy who wanted to make stuff like deadmau5, but in all fairness strobe is a fucking beautiful tune and his output was actually good back then. I just heard stuff like that and thought, 'I want to be that producer that gets my tunes rinsed by everyone, I want to be able to make stuff as good or better than that'. I also found it a really good way to get rid of negative or bad feelings by writing a tune, it really has been a great release for me, especially after suffering bouts of severe depression. My goal for the future is to have a release, which I'm perilously close to doing right now.

Used to drum in local bands got jaded due to the effort of trying to get 4 people to turn up, stay motivated and produce something half decent. Bought my mates pc which had fl studio on it, started messing around and got hooked!

Nice to see a lot of drum players.

First dubstep I heard was Skream & The Widdler. Then I got into Rusko, Reso, Datsik, etc. I never really liked the mainstream shit like Scary Monsters and basscannon but a few songs I heard on AMTV Clubland were ok. Never really liked dance music either. Bores me hearing the same loop for like 2 minutes.
