One of the many challenges of creating really good minimal dubstep - work towards getting just a sub + percussion working with nothing else so that the track appears "full", while still remaining minimal. Then if you feel like adding more, do so. The bongos in Jugano has some heavy reverb on it, though it's also quite quiet. I did something similar in my tune Samsara: Soundcloud

I don't see what is hard here?
They've just replaced hats for percussion drums - its a basic rhythm for energy in dubstep ; a few hits before your snare to make the snap - snappier and space in between.
Don't get fooled by what percussion they're using its all relative.
African drumming is a good place to start to wrap your head around building a whole tune with just a single drum ; those tunes can take you on a journey!
Don't over think it - just get a good set of properly tuned samples of high quality and play around. Its really not THAT hard.
P.S - that first tune is just a simple loop; very easy to do yourself; might not sound the same but the pattern isn't complex.
the 2nd one, I can tell you it is just a sample; it sounds WAY to natural and live to be samples and I 100% know Thelem isn't a percussionist or even has percussion to record and I doubt the other guy is/does either.

use good samples, swing the fuck out of 'em and use really specific room/space (reverb & delay) treatments.
(absolutely shameless self promotion of some old tracks):

yet another tale of a tune that sat around on dubplate for too long before its release....

My advice would be to put some reverb and a little bit of delay on the percussion, that way it will sit well in the mix, and also try not to have it too loud because you do not want your percussion to take all the focus from the tune, and that way it will sound more natural..

WAY TO STEAL MY REPLY.
Naw on the real, that's it. Think of the shakers/hats you use to make a swingy rhythm and use the same principles to make a bongo line.
Like 2-step beats, groove and 'swing' in all areas is about making something really simple and unexciting sound more exciting than it is.

Do you use a vsti for your percussion?
I always have my percussion in battery and of course the kicks and snares on separate audio channels.
Battery gives you some great options to make your percussion come alive even though you aren't a drummer.
Try for example the humanize option, I'm not a fan of it but also the articulation can make your samples sound different and more lively!
If your sapmles sound good I guess it's all about the arrangement.

been using these a lot recently they are really clean sounding and I like the way you've got so many slightly different hits for one drum, really helps to create that natural feel.
I was wondering whether anyone else knows of any similar packs like this? as this has really brought the percussion in my tracks to life!
cheers
