On one hand I have just used a Basement Jaxx 'pella on one of my own tracks (in the sig), and I feel its a fair use for a bootleg that will never be commercially available. But If I were to extract the synth bass from the original lets say and use it on a release of my own its theft.

am I just barking up the wrong tree? I'm going with my gut feeling
I don't see a difference. One is more popular, but two wrongs don't make a right.

There are plenty of tunes built on a bass sample.

Also, fair use is a very short section used for educational purposes.

I have Double edged sword feelings about this VST...

Somehow I dig it, somehow I also hate it for so many reasons.
This will be great for taking vocals out of movies and things, but when you get to taking out of other people's songs which I feel like a few kids will do, then we're going to start having problems.

Am I missing something here? What VST are we talking about?

Edit: Oh, guess it's Photosounder, nvm. Didn't look at the picture.

Is it any good? Purchased the digital version, but masterclasses are still not included. Over here we have to wait for two more weeks to get the physical copy...

Re-record the guitar, then invert phase.

Actually, taking the mid channel will help, because guitars tend to be panned.

Seeing how it would have to be a close to identical piece of audio to get anything worth using through phase cancellation re-recording the guitar would probably not yield decent results. You would need to get the timing bang on and use the same effects chain on the guitar

Good luck with that. That's never going to work ;-)

Not sure that hard work vs. stealing is an argument that the average CM reader ever makes.

@Maxxan, I don't think so. Photosounder isn't a plugin/VST.
Anyway yeah, the article was exactly what I expected. A few years ago someone was posting tutorials on how to use photosounder for this, and I mentioned it a bit recently when someone here was trying to recreate songs from images.

Also, I agree with Depone, but at least they plainly state the word 'steal' in regards to stealing sounds from other tracks, and not 'sample'. I also see a distinct difference like you mentioned. But I will go ahead and download the future Computer Music magazines and videos since they obviously don't have any kind of problem with people stealing things, and are willing to explain to people in detail how to do so. :6: Else they'd be some huge hypocrites.

Btw, I seriously doubt you'll find many kids successfully stealing crap from skrillknifexparty tracks as I think they are way too smashed and full for this to work well enough. I'm positive people will try anyway, though I'm pretty sure it will sound like shit.

Only comes with the print copy. They tell you that on the website where you buy the digital version

Then wtf was he talking about? Oh well, nvm.

I dunno, I think it might work though. I've come across some DIY-'pellas that are actually pretty decent quality. Not studio of course but still definately good enough to use in a mashup/remix. Either they're leaks of super shitty acapellas or someone made them.

I think his point was that stealing this way is actually hard work. They'd be the Edisons of electronic music.

ultimately i doubt this stuff would yield properly decent results that arent achievable through just making it yourself anyway. even if i want a vocal clever eqing usually just does the trick for me
