Thanks for all the help guys, might ease the stress of learning a completely different program....

oh yeah, and now I need new samples anyone know where to get some free ones? or somewhat decent priced ones? particularly drums, and maybe some vocal samples?

I gave away a free snare and stuff in a thread here, and there's lots of other threads filled with good free samples, just search a bit

I recently tried switching to Ableton from Logic because of all the hype I've been seeing. What I found out is that is that there really isn't much of a difference; you can still produce great music in both of the programs. I went back to Logic and I was finishing tunes faster and I was having more fun with it, Ableton looked too cluttered to me which was uninspiring. My point is stick with what you know and keep learning that program. Maybe instead of trying a new DAW, try out a new genre.

Yeah, I figure I will test out them both, I just want to find something good that I like, and has me inspired..... ahhhhh let the frustrations of learning a whole different interface commence.

If you use ableton they have TONS of videos just showing how to use the basics on there website.

I was a FL user for 6 years, made the switch to ableton and never looked back, i dont miss anything from FL

Go back to FL if you can, still great to learn on.

Albeton & Logic otherwise.

@noway's Give me time, I'm determined to produce a amazing tune on FL. In my eye's it works just fine for me. Just as Good as any other DAW out there.

As far as samples go, free ones will not do. For amateur producers it is fine, but to actually produce real tracks, you're going to need to pay retail on half the loopmasters and all of the vengeance libraries.

hey op I recently made the switch (like 1 year ago) from reason to ableton, so I think I can relate to your stress. I would not agree with nowaysj (whether he be trollin' or not) that you need to buy every daw in existence to make good music . Hell, even avicii uses freakin fl (not saying his music aint shite, but you can't say its not well produced.) One of my friends has 1000+ followers on soundcloud and a vinyl ep out in the uk (1st pressing sold out) who made his tunes with a cracked fl studio on a computer so shitty that it couldn't run any vsts on it. As they say, limitation breeds creativity. (even tho all daws can do pretty much the same thing these days, unless you wanna go all burial on our asses and use peak )
Don't have any experience with fl myself, but I'd say grab the demo of all the daws you can find ( ableton, cubase, and reaper, protools, renoise, etc.) Then if you have a guitar center in your area chances are the pro audio section will have a couple computers with logic and some of the above daws on them, so you can compare.
At my GC (nyc) they had logic, ableton an cubase on their computers. What I did to make my final verdict is I went there for 3 hours, spent an hour on each program trying to make a tune and seeing what came out. Ableton for me was far and away the most creatively stimulating, but daws are a really really personal choice.

As of right now Ableton is alone in its kind of live-ish workflow (don't really know how better to describe it), even though bitwig and the new fl are hot on its heels, so really the choice you have to make is between traditional linear-style daws (logic, cubase, reaper, protools) and live. IMHO since you went through the trouble of getting a macbook if you don't like live's workflow from what I've heard logic is the way to go. Go try it for yourself tho.
