midi conntrollers have come a long way and they are starting to bring out modular stuff which is great i picked up a denon dn-sc2000 and its an amazing bit of kit, and dont use fuckall space and i also find its the least invasive way to play out with a lappy cause you just need line inputs on the mixer for however many decks you want to use and dont have to fuck about with unplugging the tts/cdjs
Image you will need a soundcard though

if you need a soundcard then the reloop contour interface edition is a good shout, 5 seperate outs, no inputs though
http://www.reloop.com/reloop-contour-interface-edition

behringer cmd range is looking very interesting and should be out soon, they seriously stepped their game up this year

for my setup my current audio interface is only a 4 in 4 out (2 stereo) so im looking at either getting the contour or picking up traktor audio 8 or 10 then im gonna add to it a kontrol F1, the behringer dvs module and the drum pad controller and then see if i can make myself an extension to the chest of drawers all my gear is on(lack of space) and run one of my turntables on it for scratching
i came from a pc gaming/modding background, so when laptop djing came around it just seemed natural to jump on it so if anyone needs any advice on gear/setup etc shoot me a pm

Agreed.

I can imagine in the future that all the venue will provide is a mixer, and the DJ will bring a controller and laptop.

Even though a lot of people scoff at it now, same thing with vinyl vs CD 10 years ago. And now, in so many major clubs, the turntables are getting dusty.

That being said, if you ask me a good DJ should be able to play decently on any set-up.

A controller AND Serato makes for some great fun, got myself Serato and a controller recently, the inbuilt effects in Serato make for some really interesting and fun mixing, its just like adding 8 extra effects to your mixer. The more I look into the possibilites with Serato, the more I realise Oneman is a fucking beast.

they dont really have to go that far itd be easy to do a swith box where it has say a a serato box and a traktor box hidden inside then just have switches on the rcas to route what channels the signals go through, wouldnt even take that long to make and then everyones happy

Built in interfaces into mixers, and in this case, built in controller as well!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone own/played on this bit of kit?

i've only ever used cheap belt drives then 1210s but i gotta say this particular package looks really nice and fun.
if i had the money i'd experiment and buy a few diff types along with a few high end mixers and of course a pair of the best cdj's.
if any1 wants to give me £20,000 to buy my dream dj equiptment please feel free to pm me :dunce:

Controllers have started to get really good in the last year and a half or so, I'm actually very much looking forward to the day they replace CDJs in clubs altogether, which will probably happen within a few years. Don't think I'll ever get rid of my technics since I have so much vinyl only stuff and love using 1210s but looking forward to seeing what controllers will be like in the future. Played around with some DDJS1s a while back and really like the feel of the jog-wheels

iu think HID is gonna be a real game changer, once it matures jogs should be on par with high end cdjs, midi is very versatile but its also getting a bit dated now
