I don't get what the big deal is about maschine....

What makes them essential ?

It seems everyone has got one now

Not essential, just workflow preference. I like to punch my drums in by hand and sample/chop vinyl up which it is very fast and intuitive at doing. It has the nicest pads I've ever used, can't believe I put up with my MPD as long as I did. I'd only recommend it if you want a mpc vibe and workflow in your music. An MPC is definitely what you gotta think of it as, and with Renaissance at $2000 Maschine is a steal.

Honestly, if you're just going to use it at home in your studio for tracking out drums and samples then the mikro will do you good. If you plan on preforming with it then i would say go with the big guy.

I have the full size and personally i like to use my mouse when browsing or pulling up a instrument/plugin/samples. Everything else is going to be displayed on the computer anyway so that extra screen in the controller doesnt make that big of a difference if its just for home use.

Also wub you are so right, pad kontrol is garbage.. if anything it slowed down my workflow because its such a piece of shit, so I never put it on anymore.. anyone wanne buy a basically unused padkontrol?

at billy.. why would they be essential? Its just a controller with nice pads and and a sampler basically.. if you love to do your beats live etc this is nice.. im always tapping around on tables and materials etc

I think anyone that thinks the padkontrols pads suck, has not really used the other pad based midi controllers. I find them to be the most sensitive/articulate of all the pads. I will grant that form mpcs had better pads, much better. I haven't tried this second gen akai stuff, renaissance, so can't say.

I find gen 1 machine pads to be okay. I have a little trouble grooving on them, and I find my knuckles get sore after extended periods. The pads have very little give. Very firm. But machine is killer as a total package. Love making beats in there in stand alone mode. Also machine as a controller is fucking the sickest. I was having a lot of trouble with the very limited capabilities in nonmax live, padkontroller couldn't do it, akai mpk couldn't do it, but maschine's controller software was powerful enough to structure the midi data in such a way that live could use it.

With that said, I'm willing to sell maschine, gen 1. If you are in the states hit me up. I've sold a few things on here, I've been on the board since 07, and a couple of the west coast mods know me irl, I'm a good guy

I havent used other pad based midi controllers (except from pads on my midi keyboard and even they are better than my korg padkontrol) so not sure what you mean by that.. but im not sure if mine is faulty or they are all that bad.. it just puts me off when some hits don't even get recognized or a hit gets recognized as two hits.. I try and tap really accurate too.
