As somebody who used to carry 100-odd records, drum machines and an extra deck on public transport to free parties in Liverpool, I find this notion of ‘minimal work, maximum profit’ baffling and offensive. If anything, this guy should be grateful that his music is being backed by a big-money industry: he could be using it as a platform to make something creative and artistic. But instead he takes the opportunity to wish the downfall of all electronic music: most of which, it seems, he doesn’t even understand.

People dedicate their lives to making and releasing electronic music for minimal profit – around part-time or full-time jobs – for that tiny percent of people who will understand and appreciate it for what it is. It is all for the love of the music.

And yes: the washing machine is more convenient than a rock, but playing music in a club shouldn’t be about convenience, it should be about creating something special, whatever equipment somebody uses. It is not just about ‘stringing some tunes together’.

Ultimately, this guy needs to think about what example he is setting to a whole generation of young music fans. He should be encouraging kids to make an effort, not to rely on lazy convenience.
