Kromestar put me off him from the start by unfortunately making one of the heaviest fucking tunes that will ever be made. Have such vivid memories of a good 3 or so DMZs in a row, me and my crew walking (well, almost jogging, honestly) to mass having the standard conversation of tunes you are desperate to hear and everyone just saying over and over again KALAWANJI, KALAWANJI, KALAWANJI.

He peaked right there. Dubstep might have peaked right there in fact. Not that its the greatest piece of 'dubstep' ever made, but the excitement inside mass at DMZs in those days was just on an absoloute other realm. Its hard to stress how intense moments like kalawanji getting dropped were back in the day at those DMZs without sounding a bit patronising to people who werent there. Ive met quite a few people in the last couple years who, despite having not talked to much/at all around 2006 or so at DMZs, we both knew each other were there, and have had an instant connection with now. You both just know exactly what the other person is trying to describe, despite the fact that it is completely indescribable.

Oh god ive just made myself feel genuinely sad...pretty sure the best times of my life have been and gone. Cant complain, memories stay with...(and freerotation is in the process of creating new ones :D)

Oh dubstep. You were actually perfect.

Can't ever see there being another 2-3 year period dubstep had from 2004-2007 for any musical genre ever again.
Looking back its like everything fit just into place nicely. Been hanging on to those years for the last 5 now, still searching the old dubplates on YouTube, wandering if they will ever see the light of day.

Funnily enough deep medi is where it all kinda went wrong for me, loved the first 6 releases they put out, then it all went abit samey for me. Now 90% of dubstep that gets released sounds like it was made in the hope mala would find it and put it on deep medi.
I only own 4 deep medi records on vinyl, 002,003,004 and the new one by kahn.

The more I come to think of it, I was never that into "dubstep" it was more the "dmz sound" that mala always banged on about.

i'm with you on the deep medi going proper down hill but you forgot to mention silkie skys the limit, hobby, ised/ quest deep inside, seafront. silkie test.kromestar rainy days all amazing must have deep medi. so wish medi was pushing more of these kinda sounds rather then the robo cop style of these days.
for me deep medi stated amazing with medi 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and few others then it went dryish.
just my opinion don't shoot me down people.

^ I agree. Not copped a Medi since City Limits vol 1.

And wiggle, I wasn't there for early DMZs but I also agree. I have said this about 50000 times on this forum but you gotta remember Kalawanji and the b-side are both Terrafonix (Cessman & Kromestar) riddims. I still hear glimpses of that vibe in both their music...it pains me to think they probably won't make music together again...we could've had multiple ridds on that level :( oh well...somewhere in a parallel universe there's a whole kalawanji album

Tbh i do like all the releases you mentioned and city limits is one of those records that I wouldn't mind owning, just never go round to purchasing it.
But for me quest - stand (medi-12) and the truth - fatman (medi-13) are tunes I'd rather have.. And will probably buy these before I buy city limits. If they got repressed today I would actually instabag.

oh fuck, wat a teat i am. how could i forget quest stand.... tune takes me on a journey.
dunno if i mentioned before but i allways thought quest forever was a bit out of place on dub police and would have been more suited to deep medi.
thats another label i loved and now hate. loved the likes of rusko acton dread l wiz girlfriend and his other bits. got all the early dub police but think it stated going down hill from unitz the drop. don't get me wrong i liked the tune, just everythin else after was shit.
