Such a joke....I bet that most of the tunes played at the non commercial nights aren't signed to labels represented by GEMA. Even if they are, I still don't understand why, if a DJ purchases a song to play, he has to pay to play it.

I just wonder how they're going to enforce all this? The only way to do so would be through the venues. So even more pressure on them? Bye Bye Berghain!

What about DJs that play full sets of their own productions? Are they gonna have to pay to play their own works?

Well their slovak counterpart works in the way that you purchase a license for 200€ and you play what you want all year long, no one gives a fuck what are you playing and where you get it from. They don't collect money for respective copyright holders, they just parasite for their own profit. So i assume GEMA works somehow similar.

I don't know how it's even possible, it just seems like blatant violation. These fucks have 0 moral value

it could be good if there was a sliding scale:
quality tunnage owes no tax, shit music pays heaps
& a percentage of proceeds is directed towards grants for start-up music-based businesses
such as clubs in deprived areas, sound systems, pressing plants & festivals

How does this work?

Do they have gema agents at everyshow - inspecting and verifying everyones playlists/laptop files?

This is why radio in the states is all classic rock and country...
Here I believe (not completely sure on this) - That if you are an artist...you register with the RIAA (?!)and then once a year or couple times a year - you get cut a flat percentage of what they collect.

After the lawyers and administrators and big labels take a huge payout of course.

This is just what I've read - It could all just be false and unreal.

Kinda weird that they're doing this seeing as most DJs play a lot of unsigned dub plates etc.

Like don't those count as gifts?
Shit they're playing out on request?

I think this would be good for electronic music in germany tbh. Would drive it underground.
Businesses on the other hand are fucked.

The cost for each one of said 'copied' tracks would be €0.13, and GEMA are even proposing package deals where DJs pay €50 per 500 tracks.
people who have 5,000+ tunes on their laptops are gonna get fucked over.

would not want to be a dj in Germany.

It's unfair on the public but I think people will just start to boycott Germany. I would.
