Have to agree with what people are saying.

Just sounds like pure music snobery to me, looking down your nose at artists who havent progressed as well as yourself.

Thats as far as im going to care about it though.

:dunce:

Yeah because DSF Posts = Actual production knowledge? A lot of the big dubstep guys hardly post around here (JKenzo, etc.), does that mean they don't know anything either/have no right to an opinion?

As for the OP, it's just a fact of life I guess. Not everybody is going to be great. However, I tend to agree with you.

If someone just makes tunes for fun, that's great, more power to them, but when people are sacrificing other opportunities that might actually benefit them (hang out with friends, get a job, etc.), in order to make music that won't (IE, they're doing it because they want to get famous/recognition/etc., not just because it makes them happy), that's a problem.

At the end of the day, it's what makes you happy. If it makes the person happy, that's excellent, regardless of if the tune is gold or not. If they are doing it strictly for some other gain, and the tune isn't actually going to get them that... it's kinda sad to see them wasting their time. (However, I don't feel inclined to look out for those kind of people in the first place.)

I don't think it's worth discouraging someone though, who knows, they may get better. If someone sends me a tune for feedback that I don't particularly fancy, I still try and view it objectively and give them some help. Occasionally the tune is (in my opinion) horrible but I don't try and discourage them because that's not the kind of community I want to be a part of.

Alternatively, look at how many big tunes (in all genres) you consider pure shit/talent-less/etc., so it's not like you even need to be that great to get anywhere

No reason for anyone here to call this guy a douche bag or other derogatory names. You're taking what he's said out of context. He wasn't saying "People who's tunes aren't good should stop," and he never claimed to be better than anyone. Quit trying to be heroes.

I dont really get it, i just make tunes for a hobby in my spare time. I can imagine spending time which could be spend with friends or family slaving away at a computer when you really dont have to. :) just my opinion. Big up to anyone with that kind of commitment though.

^ That's what I meant by he got it all wrong. Music should be a hobby and a passion. If you dislike someone's tunes, someone else may fancy them. Music is a completely subjective thing. I mean, I have friends who love Burial and epoch, then others who hate them, and love, say, benny benassi and afrojack, others who hate all EDM and dubstep/electronic and listen more to clams casino stuff.
Music isn't supposed to take time away from you, in fact, it's supposed to make for time better spent. For you. Making music when you don't feel it, or forcing it out, is definitely wrong though.

I think those of you bashing the op are out of line. He wasn't offensive to anyone and while you might have a problem with his attitude as long as he's respectful, which Imo he is, it's not hurting anyone. Besides he meant to be helpful, some people might have unrealistic expectations. I had to give up on my dream of being a skateboarder, everyone ain't cut out for everything. As long asyou realize that though then sure.

By bashing I meant bashing and not disagreeing btw. Saying the thread should be locked is too far though imo.

you mean being a professional skateboarder! nyjah houston didnt gave up being a professional skateboarder. does that make him an artful skateboarder, an intuative skateboarder? no it makes him a money making machine. you cant say that you enjoy watching him do tricks that are maybe even impossible for other skaters that you (i) envy like gino ianucci or rob welsh. but everybody would say that those two are better skaters than him.

and yeah i didnt talk about skateboarding at all

I wasn't aware the ability to predict the future actually exists ????

When you see a child kick a football for the first time you don't think
"Oh its so sad, he will never be good at it"

Who the fuck knows ?

very poorly thought out thread OP, can't tell people to stop doing something they enjoy because their not at good at it. One day, they might even become successful because they ignored people that told them to stop because they were shit and carried on improving. I'd wager when you started, your music was no better than the people you had in mind when you were making this thread.

If whatever you do makes you happy, even if you're shit at it or people can't relate to it, keep doing it.

Not everyone is in it for money and bitches.

the op is completely contradicting himself and the general idea that music is supposed to be a good thing and not a competition....

as far as thinking your good when your not, i think thats just funny and should be provoked at all costs

Not saying I'm perfect now, but I pretty much sucked for a solid 8 months before coming up with good sounds, and I loved every minute of it. I put in tons of hours and eventually it paid off. You should never tell someone to give up if they're enjoying themselves.

Somebody's always going to like your stuff, and somebody won't. I guess everybody should kinda give up.

Haters gonna hate. :6:
He wasn't saying "People who's tunes aren't good should stop"
The start of his post:
Pork E Pig wrote:there are so many great artists on this website and i think they should stick with it.
and then there is everyone else...
he never claimed to be better than anyone.
He implied it by the fact that he hasn't given up, and others should.
He wasn't offensive to anyone
I found it offensive.
as long as he's respectful, which Imo he is
He's not respecting the desires of others. He's also putting down their creative work.
it's not hurting anyone.
He's attempting to manipulate the desires of others, which is an infringement their rights.
I had to give up on my dream of being a skateboarder
No you didn't.
people are sacrificing other opportunities that might actually benefit them (hang out with friends, get a job, etc.)
It's all about balance. Just 'hanging out' and treading water with a shit job without developing a skill would be a waste of time as well. You presented a false dilemma in which it can only be one or the other. Life has grey areas.
they're doing it because they want to get famous/recognition/etc.
It's a symptom of narcissism. Yours and Pork E's posts sound a little narcissistic as well...

wow, op is an asshole. how can you honestly say that someone should give up making music, expressing themselves?! it's not about who has the cleanest production, the tightest drums or the biggest bass, it's about doing something that you feel is worth your time and that you yourself are happy with. if all musicians only thought about how to be "good" (whatever the fuck that means) there would be no great music. create whatever you want to create and be your own critic. learn to express yourself better and more accurately, but don't give up.
