The other option is that the cow/whatever else gets stuck under the train, the train derails and potentially hundreds are killed.

Whether with a pilot or not, once the cow is hit by the train, doubt it gives a fuck about what rights it had.

it walks in front of a train by accident.it isn't being killed on purpose. that's there to minimize risk of train derailment. it's not a matter of animal rights it's about avoiding a horrible accident.

also if someone offered me train killed cow as long as it was still good to eat I would. at least something has been gained from it's death then.

i dont think you understand at all what people are saying

1. the animal would unfortunately die with or without the cowcatcher
2. i imagine the death is going to be just as bad if not actually worse without the cowcatcher to push the cow out of the way
3. it prevents derailment of the train, preventing the loss of further life in the form of up to hundreds of people on the train
