Knowing what settings are what doesn't really mean anything if it's still unstable. Your settings can be perfect but if you don't have enough cooling, have some faulty hardware etc. they still will cause issues

My idle and max temps stay way under the 62c mark, so it's all good... I am pretty sure it's my audio device that's causing it, cause like I said, when I get high CPU usage in Ableton sometimes, it'll freeze up, and when I unplug the USB cable from it, I BSOD... I normally don't BSOD, so It's not a common thing for me :3 I benchmark, overclock, and game intensively, so I gotta make sure my system is stable.. My 955 is @ stock clocks, and my NB is too, so it's not an OC causing it, or heat, or voltage w/e....

pony bwoy, 62º C is way too hot brother, get some proper cooling. plus, never disconnect the audio card while it's processing audio. If you are reaching 100% in ableton start bouncing some stuff to audio or use an external dsp processor.

62ºC isn't hot at all! And it depends a lot on the processor, the size of the case, the cooling system, the CPU load, the voltages etc. A lot of thin laptops run quite hot due to not having much room for cooling. Usually internal throttling kicks in at about 100ºC, so 62º isn't anything to worry about.

That being said - OP have you tried running a stability test? LinX is pretty good for this, set the threads to however many cores you have and leave it on for a couple of hours. If it fails for any reason, you've got a problem.

Also, if you have overclocked your system in the past, it's normal for the CPU to degrade. Usually it means you have to keep upping the voltages to get it to run stable.

62ºC is the ceiling for a 955 running at stock speeds according to AMD so yeah depending on the chip 62 is pretty hot

Ah, i'm used to Intel. It seems that AMDs have lower max temperatures than Intel.

A quick google says that if an i7 is getting up to 70 there's a problem so maybe you should look into better cooling

My i7 920 is sitting at 46ºC under load @4.4Ghz. I think the fact my room is freezing most of the time helps though

Maybe im lame but i always thought it was important to work within your limitations? Why over-clock if your going to crash your machine?

not hating, just think maybe you dont BSOD you just wanted to brag about your machine.... wasnt your last thread... how much you max your cpu or something?
(a thread on how to run a maxxed out computer might be more relevent to the board maybe? some good information here on cooling and stuff.)

I run an OC'd i7.

Only BSODs I ever get are sometimes when I try to hotswap my HDMI connector on my Gfx card, which I can't seem to fix

My i7 2600k runs at 4.6 and barely breaks a sweat, but we can't compare that to an AMD chip. They're built on different processes and have different layouts and materials.

TBH i think this is getting a little off topic - the OP said that it wasn't getting near 62ºC, so i doubt that overheating is the problem.

To be honest the thread is a bit stupid - the OP claims to be an avid overclocker, yet thinks that running a stable CPU at 100% for extended periods causes blue screens...

Yeah you're right - a machine that BSODs all the time is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Stability is more important than performance, and if you crash regularly you run the risk of losing data.
