The stock search works fine if people set the advanced options.

More structured content.

The best stuff here is obviously the useful stuff: the how-to's, the Q&A's, the heads-up-this-is-free threads... that's what I read here anyway. Yes, there's a lot of pedantic shit here and everywhere else (How doez I Skrillex? et. al.); yes there are a lot of people either clearly not bothering to look for stuff or being naive and thinking they've just invented the wheel and sliced bread at the same time and want everyone to see their clever-ousness; and yes, overmodding snuffs the life out of any forum.

So the solution, then, would be simply to make sure that there's always just enough good shit to make the bad shit irrelevant.

I know that this might be a stretch, but solid regular contributors, more organized/incentivized contests and giveaways, and other useful things (video tutorial stickies? Production e-book archives/library? I know this is essentially asking to re-host things that are more or less easily found out there on teh webz but having it in one organized spot here would be cool) are exactly the kind of good shit I'm chattin'bout.

Also - and this is the most pipe-dreamy of anything I've said - having graduates of the forum who've gone on to even very modest success give back just a little in the form of doing tutorials, Q&A's, judging contests, etc. is how it should be done. We used to call it bootstrapping back in the winter of aught-nine.

is there any way to change the board skin/view? This white version is blinding, I would welcome something a bit more darker.

personally i think that the production bible is in the wrong place. I know i rarely look at the announcements tab, so maybe if the Bible was a sticky in topic instead of announcements it would be seen more often.

Less Immature/Non-Helpful Trolls lurking the production boards. Make more community involved stuff...(video logs?, events?) not trolling new members off cuz that's what usually happens when they ask their first question on the forum.

Seems like there's less activity going on..maybe that's just my bad memory and it's always been like this?

I'll write more if I think of anything worthy

What if there was a Help Section completely outside of the Production Boards?
Not a subforum, a completely different board.

If Production, Hardware & Technical became two boards. Production & Hardware Forum, Technical Assistance Forum.

Production and Hardware Forum - Hardware and Software Reviews, General production talk.

Technical Assistance Forum - WIP Thread, Mixdown/Money Shot, and the Help Me Threads.

I guess if you want to get technical what I'm asking for isn't much different than creating subforums, but the issue seems to be that most people who have been around for a while don't want to read 1000 posts on how to sound exactly like X popular Producer and this solves that problem.

We should all have a picture of ourselves for our avatars. :6:

More advanced/experimental stuff
Friendlier discussions when in disagreement

Maybe an improved sticky where every bit of serious advice is put together and the jokes are filtered out? A wiki could be interesting.

http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=263526 we need less threads like that. Stupid question + misinformation

I'm trying something with Thinking Out Loud that is kinda similar to this, but I'd love if other people did something similar :)

Wouldn't mind getting Ninjas like Ledge back in to do a Q&A.

Only have the two colour options I'm afraid, nothing we can do about that :(
ehbrums1 wrote:personally i think that the production bible is in the wrong place. I know i rarely look at the announcements tab, so maybe if the Bible was a sticky in topic instead of announcements it would be seen more often.
Stickies/Annoucements are a bit of a bone of contention, as they can make the top of the board look a bit cluttered. I'll have a mess around today with alignment and see what looks good :)
daeMTHAFKNkim wrote:Make more community involved stuff...(video logs?, events?)
Video logs are a good idea, if anyone wants to take the initiatve and do some tutorials/session captures etc (my PC would not handle video capture on top of everything else  )

Can you expand on what you mean by events?

Okay, two parts to this;

1) Sub forums/new boards are not going to happen
2) This doesn't solve a problem, it just moves it somewhere else. Sound design questions aren't going to go away just because they are moved from one place to another.

A creative solution to this issue might be having a single thread for each 'popular' producer (and by popular I mean has a lot of questions asked about them), that all threads/queries can be merged into, like we did for Skrillex. Keeps all the stuff in one place, if you're not a fan of that producer you don't have to read the thread, and it's easy to lock/redirect/merge whenever a new user asks a question about a producer we already have one of these in place for.

This kind of change can only really be put in place by you guys. You want to discuss advanced/experimental stuff, then start threads about it. You want friendlier discussions, stop trolling one another because that shit escalates rapidly and gets old even faster  (I'm using 'you' as the collective you, not singling you out, Artie :) )
Artie Fufkin wrote:Maybe an improved sticky where every bit of serious advice is put together and the jokes are filtered out? A wiki could be interesting.
I'll look at revising/editing the stickies so they're easy to understand. A wiki is a great idea, anyone feel like taking that on as a project I'd be fully behind it.
legend4ry wrote:More me.
I agree. If you feel like contributing any articles/features etc, drop me a PM and we'll discuss ;)

(BTW the missus was asking me when we get another Dubstep mix from you :P )

legend4ry wrote:Nah, I stopped posting as much cause theres 3 topics which are named differently.

We have the sound design thread(s) for that kind of question.
legend4ry wrote:Help! I have writers block / am stuck with something
Plenty of inspiration threads that we can link/redirect/merge to.
legend4ry wrote:Trollololol / useless bum licking.
Standard in any forum, sadly. I remove/edit whenever I can but TBH it does get a little out of hand from time to time

Maybe, For example the pink area that say's "forum rules" at the top of the page, have a excerpt asking to "Use the the search function to see if a similiar thread exists please".
Or something along those lines.

Some rules i'd like to see:

Use the search function before posting a question - chances are whatever you're going to ask has been discussed and answered dozens of times before.

Use Google or another popular search engine and do some research before giving your opinion as fact. This is a forum where people go to find information after all, so accuracy should be important.

Don't swear/insult/abuse someone who doesn't agree with your opinion. Instead discuss it like an adult, and perhaps try to find an article written by an authority on the subject you're discussing to back up your statement.

Don't quote people out of context, try to understand the bigger point they are making.
