That's what I was trying to say, the problem isn't so much with the album, I'm sure it IS deliberate, the problem is with my brain not processing it correctly I suppose. And I still think it sounds like a collection of tracks more than an album. But that could be down to me again.

I was asking you to elaborate, not describing the music as elaborate (although it is).
My main problem with the album is the sheer size of it; there's just so much going on it's near impossible to take it all in. That coupled with the fact it's stretched across two hours or so makes it pretty much indigestible.
Some astounding music in there though. Just could have done with being a but more focused.
'Random' is one of the last words I'd use to describe it, but then again if they've been using stochastic processes again it's spot on.

Yeah, maybe it's just too intimidating for me? The sheer size of it all and I think it is a challenging listen that I'm not up too at the moment.
Mind you, I've never had a problem with 'challenging' listening or simply challenging music (I've got quite a bit of noise in my collection). Maybe I've just not gotten in the right mindset to really tackle with this one, an important aspect I think.
I just found myself skipping tracks here and there and occasionally stumbling a cross a good piece (Bladelores comes to mind) but it simply didn't sustain for long enough periods, hence perhaps me perceiving it as a random collection of tracks thrown together.
Needless to say I have not bought it yet at this point, just going off the stuff that's online. Maybe I should download it and give it more time.
Then again, I've not had this with other Autechre material (though I'm not an undivided fan and only favour a limited amount of the output in general). I suppose this whole thing makes the album more interesting than a lot of other music out there in its own right. But on the whole, I'm just not sold yet!

1st CD was very Aphex-esque, which in my book isn't the be end all of electronic mastery...
looking forward to disc 2.

Digi out today. Sounds like the gnarlier bits of Exai with a sprinkling of sounds from Quaristice.

I am not at home with this sound, I'm afraid. I appreciate the production and they can certainly construct sounds in ways no others can, but I don't feel any passion from it.
