when i said you are lame, it was meant with sarcasm. but theres nothing unnecessary about hardware. its really just a different way of working - and i personally find it engaging. thats all.

and i personally dont have a problem with u or anyone else using it. i just, personally, dont know how the fuck i gonna shift all the gear i already have (like monitors for example) next time i move country. which will b soon. so, for me, it aint right. but i wasnt anywhere suggesting u shouldnt use it. not even that the original poster shouldnt use it. just that maybe it wld b wise not to invest in anything yet till he/she has more of an idea of what they need.

anyway, now, with no hint of sarcasm or irony, can u tell me why a drum synth is more fun/useful than just using something like the MPD24 with a softsampler? not that i'm gonna go out an get one either way, for reasons already made clear, but still its good 2 know what u missing out on

i like the fact that the drum machine is more of an all in one machine. It has it's own interface, a rudimentary sequencer, perhaps some built in effects, etc...

the mpd 24 requires, the computer, the soft synth, the sequencer... you've gotta load up a new project just to fuck around with something... i find the interface tends to be more distracting.

coming in at 320 squiddies, not something i'll be just jumping up and buying, but definatly something to work towards lol...

In all honesty, its quite unesciscary.. It won't improve anything I do, but it will be less of a hinderance than mouse and keyboard, it has all the transport stuff built in for dropping some notes, yes its got the drum pads, its got the infinate potentiometers, touchpad and joystick.. with all ur standard knobs and faders... truley a beast! ( Novation also do kit like this with built in synths ) thaught it might fit the hardware thread lol

most hardware is just software inside a pre-configured midi controller

that being said...midi configuration for most software is a pain in the ass...

Novation sure has the right idea with Automap...

On a whim I bought a KORG MicroX Synthesizer and keyboard controller. I was just looking for a keybaord controller to use with reason but I was amazed when I was demoing it in the store. They were having great sale, I got it for 600$ and put it on a guitar center CC i opened up and don't have to pay for it in a year (yay good(for now) credit). Anyways It's great for a hardware synth and sequence it on the computer. But then I saw the KORG kP3 pad and went nut for it because I love to do psychedics and make trip experimental music, Any ways I still had 300 dollars on my guitar center CC. Call me impulsive but I got it! 4 sample banks and ton of effects you can manipulate with you fingers! I have a good time playing on it, but have yet to record anything solid (sorry). But I'm exciting at the prospect of getting a KORG ESX-! (don't need a EMX-1 cause I got the MircoX synth) and getting really crazy! These things are the shit!

Anyways sorry to ramble, but this is how I do it now for now.
