wikipedia is a helpful place to start if you know nothing about the history of racial oppression. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_supremacy

it's possible "black pride" could be used by people who thought that black people were inherently superior to all other races, but they wouldn't have the tide of history or of current social power in their favour.wub wrote:Do you feel that either term could support the opposite connotation of what you have described?dubfordessert wrote:black pride is in response to a long history of contempt for black people.
white pride is usually neo-izan delusions of grandeur and racism.
For example, Black Price being used negatively in the same way as neo-sizan utilise White Price?
So because of it's historical conceptions, White Pride could never be utilised in anything other than a negative manner?dubfordessert wrote:it's possible "black pride" could be used by people who thought that black people were inherently superior to all other races, but they wouldn't have the tide of history or of current social power in their favour.
conversely, it's not really possible for anyone to unironically shout "white pride" without being at the very least, incredibly ignorant of history. there is no coherent construal of use that doesn't have very unpleasant connotations imho.
It's crazy to think we are only a few generations separate from slavery, segregation, apartheid etcMichael Jackson wrote:It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White

I wonder how many generations it will take until the wounds are healed, or at least forgiven on the grounds of mutual equality?
Would prejudice take longer to dissolve (if at all) if based on characteristics that are physical as well as cultural.d-T-r wrote:I wonder how many generations it will take until the wounds are healed, or at least forgiven on the grounds of mutual equality?

I guess that's gonna be subjective. People will hold on to their prejudices until they are willing to recognize them as such.Would prejudice take longer to dissolve (if at all) if based on characteristics that are physical as well as cultural.
Theres a Louie Theroux documentary where he interviews loads of black power people, a lot of them seem just as militant as their 'opposites'dubfordessert wrote:it's possible "black pride" could be used by people who thought that black people were inherently superior to all other races, but they wouldn't have the tide of history or of current social power in their favour.wub wrote:Do you feel that either term could support the opposite connotation of what you have described?dubfordessert wrote:black pride is in response to a long history of contempt for black people.

Didn't really think about that, but I guess so. I don't have straight pride so I don't really understand how you can have pride in your sexuality.wub wrote:So, homosexuals then?EliteLennon117 wrote:I think pride is dangerous when you take pride in something you can't control.
Why do you think Gay Pride is dangerous though?EliteLennon117 wrote:Didn't really think about that, but I guess so. That's their origins, origins don't mean jack. The origins of 'black pride' may be more respectable, but the idea of 'black pride' is every bit as retarded and anti-intellectual and irrarional as 'white pride'. Is murdering out of revenge good because murdering out of fun is less respectable?dubfordessert wrote:black pride is in response to a long history of contempt for black people.

pretty obvious really.
Yes. I said this recently during St Paddys day when loads of people on my fb were banging on about English pride, posting pictures of English flags and 'FUCK ST PADDYS DAY'. Pride is an extremely strong word and the things I'm most proud about I've worked hard towards.. you should be a proud parent, proud at where you are in life, proud of achievements ect. Not something you're lumped with. I find the people who bang on about being proud of their colour, nationality or even area code are mostly retards who've achieved nothing in life so thats all they really have to be proud of.wub wrote:Do you think pride in such a thing (outside of our control) is pointless?Phigure wrote:either way i dont understand why people have pride over things they have no control over, whether it be what race they are, what country they're born in, etc
iz u serious fam? you ain't never seen vikings on da hiztory channel? dose guyz had it hard as fuck, rowing their way to england cuz dey thought it was a land full of gold and bitches smh..Phigure wrote:i dont like generalizing, but i think its generally fair to say that black people have had more struggles to overcome in their history and that white people have had it relatively easy.
