Not EDM at all but a truly skilled (and different) album! JF is a true musical genius. Definitely worth a listen if you want some inspiration for new directions.

I would also recommend watching this interview with him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYZQcS_wKzs . This is by far the best explanation of creativity in music I have ever come across.

I agree with Brothulhu on this one. Even weird electronic stuff is still electronic music. Which, sonically, is going to use a similar pallet. Try branching out more into different genres. Look for simple stuff where the songwriting is what takes the spotlight, not the wall of sound. Try some classic rock if you want to hear some cool melodies. Blues and classical if you want to hear some emotion. Country (real country, not T Swizzle) if you want to learn about syncopation. And heavy metal. Because its good for you.

But back on topic.

I started listening to KOAN Sound recently which has been giving me some inspiration.

classic rock does not have interesting melodies. They are all more or less the same and either incredibly normal or use the blues scale. BOMBACART

I would say like the same as others about dont just limit yourself to EDM (pls stop using that word) but also, if you want to be influenced by tunes that rock the dance, then dont look for albums lol, the best albums, even by people who make dance music, arent comprised of dance music tracks. An album full of club tracks is fucking shit lol

What about stuff that's not electronic at all?

Well I can normally listen to anything and appreciate it. I like and listen to a lot of different rock genres. I just like electronic music more and prefer to listen to it. But Wub if you have something amazing you want to share I will have a listen what ever it is.

Illmatic was such a good album. It really is a shame/joke what rap/hip hop has become today.

You know what, some times I will hear a track I like so much that I want to make a track exactly like it. IMO though that's just human nature. Like I might see someone dressed a certain way and I want to buy some clothes like it. It's fun and I make music for fun.

To say that I want to listen to EDM just to steal Ideas is ridicules. I find the most pressure in EDM and could give several reasons why I do. Also getting inspired by a track is competently different to "pinching ideas". Some of my most original ideas have been spawned by a part in a track I'm listening to.

chekov... really, that comment was just as ridicules as Dooshbhag's. I was bored, had loads of free time and a bit of writers block. My muse kicked in anyway the day after I made this thread. so now I have a track to finish that I wont be able to stop thinking about and a few things have come up that I have had to deal with.

I made that post so people know I'm going to come back and listen to the music. I like to know if people like the music I send them so I wanted to let people know what I liked in the thread.
