Reaper is great for holding precise values, we love Reaper.

If however, you wanted to split a file into 12 tracks & wished for them to add up to the exact same level as the input, I think you'd be more comfortable practising this operation in Volt.

You can automate it yes, but the 'transition speed' knob is where the magic happens.
This is the rate at which Volt fades from a starting value, to the target gain value.

JND in Sound Intensity

A useful general reference is that the just noticeable difference in sound intensity for the human ear is about 1 decibel.
JND = 1 decibel

That's gotta be 1dB RMS though. When metering using the peak value I'd say anything to 1/10 of a db is practical. But idk, could be wrong, I'm not even really sure how rms values relate with changes in peak volume.

We're talking about faders and gain - a 1db change is a 1db change, there is no need to worry about RMS and peak values. The only metering we're using in this context is our ears.

Try it for yourself - have a friend change the fader in 0.1db increments and see if you notice. Obviously do it in such a way that you don't know what they're doing, blind is the only fair way to test this sort of thing. Have them change it either +0.1, -0.1 or not at all, and you have to guess which one. Maybe try it with test tones, so that the volume of the audio doesn't fluctuate.

Another test would be for someone to upload a fade out with Ableton's faders, vs Volt, see if any of us can tell which is which.

the thing is would you use a normal fader if someone held a gun to your head and asked to make a song with a precise -300db fade or would you use this plugin?
