it's a straight tone arm (im pretty sure that's the name), apparently more useful when it comes to scratching/turntablism, that's what i got told when i bought my tables and asked about the straight armed version of mine.
these pics are always pretty cool to see!
My first guess was a Stanton STR8 series TT;
But the on/off switch and speed selectors on the Stanton is circular whereas with the Technics they're rectangle, so reckon it's a 1210 with a straight arm conversion;
Used to be a guy on eBay who sold conversion kits IIRC.
