The alternatives are that the rebels attacked themselves with chemical weapons to get support from US or that the US did it to give an excuse for invasion (no chance)

War does not need to have a financial benefit to occur.
There are multiple ulterior motives for war.

idk really but well
1. the arms manufacturers make a killing again
2. Iran gets it's one major ally removed permanently
3. The oil producing states- saudi, qatar etc are placated and even more firmly in the american's pocket.

British and American troops are due to pull out of afghan in 2015 aren't they? It's pretty obvious that our governments need another war to keep them occupied with.

If I'm not mistaken, Obama used the troops pulling out of afghan as his way of upping votes.
They're still there though.

I think he did, but he's lied about so much anyway. It doesn't matter when they leave though, because as soon as they do it'll all go tits up. Pretty much what happened in Vietnam, but governments don't learn from their mistakes do they. They've made thousands of soldiers redundant just so they don't have to pay them their full pension. Then proceed to recruit the same amount, basically conscripting them into the lower paid roles, saving themselves a nice wad of cash.

?
So you are more concerned for the unemployed soldiers than the senseless warfare causing numerous deaths.?? like in Vietnam.
And the way 10000 of young men go to war thinking they are doing the right thing for the freedom of their country.
But in the end they realize they have done nothing but further a governments greed.

Oil
I think in this case oil is actually secondary, or rather proximity to it since Syria is a relatively smaller producer.
I'll bet the House of Saud would love to see one of he two Shia-majority countries deballed though. That and many Muslims think Alawis (Assad's sect) are a little creepy.
