to my knowledge idm was an umbrella term back in the early noughties or so for all non-mainstream electronica. eero johannes (a skwee producer) for example called his early works "idm compositions from his drawer"

idk what im talking bout but good music here, gonna sample some of it in a hip hop beat

IDM is what indierockers call electronic music they like so they won't have to confess to their indie rock friends that they like plebian and dumb dance crap like "garage" or "speedcore" (literally musicians in both styles and anything in between has been described as "IDM" at one point or another).

ok just post good idm assholes, every genre name is fucking retarded when you really think about it. "hip hop" "rock & roll" "metal" "blues" and those are the big genres, all the little niche electronic music genre names are even worse.
