Okay, so the wisdom of the crowd seems to indicate that common sense is a cognitive heuristic. But heuristics aren't necessarily the most accurate or useful, so is common sense worth trying to follow?

Well if walls have ears, there can't be a face far away, can there?

I despise people who say 'common' instead of 'come on', it's the worst when sports are on. Are you insulting English people or supporting them

Mate, there's instinct and there's common sense. If you lack the wit, instinct or common sense to quickly assess that you need to jump out of the way of the car, then you deserve to get knocked over. Also, it's generally quite difficult for cars to come out of nowhere as they're rather big. If you're silly enough to step anywhere where a car is likely to go and not check properly that there isn't one coming your way, I'd say you also deserve to get knocked over. And pay for the damage to the car too. And for freaking out the driver.

Common sense also tells me to stop this conversation here as you're probably being deliberately obtuse or just trolling.

Was walking down sidewalk, and was almost hit from behind by a car that attempted to avoid crashing into a stopped car. I jumped out of the way at the last second.

Cars can get to all sorts of places, both hypothetical, and real.

Not trying to be awkward or anything, just asking exacting questions to clearly define the boundaries of what common sense covers (it's now separated from instinct, so it's a social phenomenon?). If you were thinking otherwise with your common sense, how wrong do you think you have been about other situations?

Does anyone have any awareness of cognitive bias and an opinion on how much it affects their life?
