i grew up on the estate in bulwell where alot of it was filmed. definatley alot of truth to it all. brought back alot of memories.

one of my sisters was a punk, n one used to dress in harrington jackets n 2tone type clothes, there were a few skin heads on our estate but mainly casuals.

there were loads n loads of scenes that didnt make it into the film unfortunatley. im hoping the dvd has lots of deleted scenes.

its a shame the skinhead thing went racist, as it originally brought black n white kids together, same as 2tone. some real good music came from both movements.

my mrs also knows the mixed race lad in it. hes safe as fuck, a really nice guy.

i really liked dead mans shoes too. cant wait for his next film.

Enjoyed Dead Man's Shoes, and TwentyFourSeven..... reckon This is England
is his best yet tho. The soundtrack's great too. Born in Nottingham and went
back there for Uni, love recognising places in his films! He's a wicked director.

Oh, and Nottingham IS pretty rough. Its got elements of the
fighting mentality you get in towns (being a small city), but
also elements of proper city violence. More racial violence
than I've come across anywhere else too. Lived Radford
way when I was a nipper, and thats where I moved back
to. There were regular shootings down my road, regular!!
and some of the stories that I heard from mates out in the
Meadows really made you stop and think. Haven't been back
there in 6 years or something tho, things may have improved.
And theres also a really warm and friendly side to the place, as
his films capture really well too I reckon. Violence is bad m'kay :D

Absolute class film, shame it was was a snapshot and ended the way it did as I could have sat through an epic of that - IE kid gets older etc, sequel anyone? I've got a mate who's a "Real" Punk and he kinda confirms that this was a fringe element and that The Front used punk/skinheads as a way in.

Shane Meadows is a genius, what he gets from some of the non-actors is nothing short of a miracle and a lot of its improvised.

Watched his "A Room For Romeo Brass" recently with the same black kid in, brilliant however I see where Geiom's coming form with his portrayal of nutters.

"Dead Mens Shoes" :!: :!: :!:

I absolutely loved it. Brought tears to the eyes. Such a shame the national front made Skinhead a bad word.

Nice movie :) But you have to spent your childhood in England in the early 80s to fully understand and enjoy it :)
