MakO had a podcast on Bassgorilla which he described that in Fabfilter Pro-Q you can do something called Linear phase EQing which adds a small predelay effect (Hence the "breathing) but you can't hear it that often.

I have to agree with what a lot of people are saying here. Basically there are few extremely useful plug ins out there. I personally, can only name a few that are absolutely a must for my productions. Everything else is sort of marketed to people that think they are going to get that "exact sound" quickly if they buy a certain plug in or they just update to a fancy detailed interface.

Point is, using plugins is so subjective. What I have been learning is instead of adding tons of specific plug ins on your resampled EFX chains, really worry about how you're using what you've got.

One of my most basic reece bass EFX chains only uses the following:
Camelphat crusher, multiband dynamics (where i will modulate the volumes of each split band to give almost a sweeping filter effect), erosion, massive (or FM8 or whatever you are working with), chorus, and maybe ohmacide or a phaser set low. That was not in any particular order btw.

But what I will do is modulate and automate parameters, sample it, do it again, resample, do it again, resample, do it again, etc. until I'm happy.

Another words, utilize what you've got to the fullest potential - craft a unique dynamic with limited plugs and see what happens. Limiting your amount of plugins may spark some of the most creative material yet!

Give it a shot.

(Also, Ableton's Sampler is a must!)

There are also a lot of secrets to really bring out your basses when doing reece sampling or neurohop (if that's what you're going for)

And yes, MakO did do an interview with Luke and totally spoiled the usage of linear EQ.

That is nothing new. just a creative way of incorporating the technique into his music.

Your DAW probably has very good default effects, most do.

Very well put Everyone said some great stuff with plugins ill go check them out when i get a bit more money and try out the demo's or "other" downloads and see what it can do for my production.

I like all abeltons stuff but sometimes using different products give you different sounds such as the normal, sausage fattener, camelphat/crush, and so on. Other companies set up some effects differently like their phaser and chorus's which are different to abletons stock plugins.

I understand to an extent in which what the effects do and how it will affect my sound but it doesnt hurt getting and using something that isnt stock with your daw.

On the subject of abletons sampler, it is literally one of if not the best tool for bass design. Its just crazy all the things you can modulate within and not having to throw a couple filters and such. You literal can throw some wav clip and turn it into something crazy if you understand what you're doing. I just randomly dropped in a wave of this phased saw thing in massive and adjusted the looping a bit and add its internal effects and i got this crazy whomp wobble going. Added a couple phasers, chorus and reverb; the sound started sounding completely different!

By far best ableton instrument besides operator that is.
