I think the overwhelming bulk of scholars believe there was a historical Jesus.

There case is facing more and more scrutiny though, especially with modern technology that can now carbon date diaries as being way later than a supposed eye witness account. A lot of scholars also have a conflict of interest, especially when it comes to funding and their own beliefs.

That is dated to...
These three papyrus fragments of Thomas date to between 130 and 250

And written by stoners, thus the hilarity.

Weirdest thing...
On the topic of Moses/'Huasca, there was a really interesting paper I came across years ago where the author made a seemingly well-documented, well-constructed claim that the early Mormon church used mind altering substances in their early phases - accounts where the whole church drank from a communal vessel and a half hour later they see angels walking down the aisle of the church, stuff like that. Ephedra, morning glory, datura, and others were mentioned.
It was hosted on a site called mormonelixirs.org and run by a guy named Robert Beckstead.
Now - it's totally gone - not even the google webcache remains. All that's left are a few other sites that refer to it, but no actual archived versions. As if somebody went on a Scientology-style purge to expunge this stuff from the popular record.
Fuck.

This one statement precludes me from being involved in this conversation.
Yes, I am that edgy.

doin' a good job digging up stuff worth considering alfalfacat
sure jesus knew & used cannabis
no one claims he was stupid or ignorant after all
whether it lead him to have dreams of self-grandeur is relatively unimportant compared to the unadulterated message he left:
love one another
subsequently fucked over & shat on by Church power-trippers
on the other hand
ol Mohammed,
he's gone up into the hills on a bender
and come down with a psychosis
written a book declaring it God's word,
gone on a rampage of compulsory acceptance
and infected a substantial population with cultish ignorance
such that their primary goal becomes submission to whoever best represents a wrathful God
(except brave people like the Sufis who see thru the hateful tribalism)
well, that's my opinion in summary.
which involves the duality of dope
but doesn't ascribe the continuation of closed minds to it.
I mean, Christianity & Islam are obviously failed models of reality.
If need be, smoke a little more
or meditate or think or age to wisdom
but come on, let's move along
get up to date, reject false identification
get a new religion if necessary
but ffs leave the old stoners behind
they've got nothing to tell us about our well-being
(except the universal, common-sense platitudes)
and what we've gotta get off our arses to do.
