maybe it's just his evil, identity-thieving cousin Bronga who's retiring?

I stopped rating Benga ages ago, especially after Chapter II and watching him develop some sort of famous persona over just releasing tunes and playing sets
Although I do have a soft spot for "Open Your Eyes", even if it is a massive Prodigy rip off

No doubt about it, an absolute legend in the scene and people will be spinning his records for many more moons.

Big ups Benga.

Are they still on R1? They must be frustrated, sign arguably dubsteps most well known producers/DJs and one turns to disco and the other retires.

i saw benga and skream back in 2009 and the music they played was so bad i don't think i ever actively listened to either of them again. that said, he put out some really good tunes back in the day i've always enjoyed

Yepp, saw him and Skream in 2009 and it was so bad I stopped listening to dubstep at all for a while. Swear I listened to just acoustic guitar music for a couple months...
but I will always have fond memories of his old stuff.

NME wrote:
Benga retires from music to 'start a family'
'Big up to all my real supporters,' says the DJ/producer

Benga has announced his retirement from music.

The dubstep DJ/producer says he is quitting the music industry to start a family with his partner, Holly-Jae Treadgold, who he has recently got engaged to. Benga made the announcement on his official Facebook page today (February 2).

He wrote: "im engage (sic) to Holly-Jae Treadgold the love of my life, my djing career is finished i just wanna start a family. big up to all my real supporters its been a lovely time." At the same time, Benga also deleted his Twitter account.

Supporting his decision to quit, Skream, who together with Benga and Artwork formed dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man, tweeted:
Salute to my brother Benga.... It takes a lot to announce something like that. He's been nothing but pure inspiration to me over the years.— Oliver Jones (@I_Skream) February 2, 2014
Benga released his first solo album, 'Newstep', in 2006 and followed it up with 'Diary Of An Afro Warrior' in 2008. His latest, and now final album, 'Chapter II', was released in May 2013. He also had great success with Magnetic Man, who released their self-titled Official Albums Chart Top 5 album in 2010.

you realise that's just nme's headline and Benga never actually used those words? he retires from his "djing career". maybe he even continues to produce and churn out tunes, who knows.
