The thing that winds me up the most about Zomby/Reark is that Zomby was enough of a dumbass to think he could get away with it. It's like he believes he's the only person who is aware of the internet.
Would explain his Twitter/DSF antics, tbh.

this has been bothering me, all this fucking new grime is exactly the same musically as the old shit, except the productions shinier and there's no proper mc's -> it's not got the same vibe, not even close

Yeah but Fierce tho.
More interesting i think is the cross-over of grime sounds in other types of tune. E.G: the little eski reeses in Haunted Harmonics, some of the synths/percs on the Wen album, stuff like this from Sepia: https://soundcloud.com/fatkidonfire/sep ... -fkof-free, Rinse Compressor, you could even stretch it to cover the new Alix Perez EP on Exit.

yeah i mean i'm not grouping in 130 or more experimental weirdness like that sd laika bre, but that stuff that's just aiming for traditional grime like kahn and neek and tumble audio yeah, there's just far too much of it in bristol and it feels like a complete musical dead end
yeah johoosh exactly that's where grime is being used well to move forwards
tunes like fierce are obviously hard but when you're hearing whole sets of them it gets way too much

anyway i don't have any problem in them using old grime sounds even if is not groundbreaking or anything but dunno that music is great fun specially live with the vips and that, plus as josh said fierce is a badman tune. i wouldn't mind an old dubstep revival too

hmm think i've overexposed myself to it or whatever
naaaah man i feel an old school dubstep revival seems like an admission that it's all kinda "over", there's so many good tunes coming out this year from different sources, not just medi/tempa/dmz standards, i'd just like to hear a bit more of that, feel like there's still much more creative space than was ever available in grime

yeah i kinda feel there's a space for bangers that haven't q strayed into tearout madness territory that isn't quite as exploited as before, a tune like tortured for example

Sampling is a perfectly noble pursuit as long as the sampler takes their tune in a new direction. The only absolute no-nos for me are cover versions of electronic tunes, especially ones where some jumped up cunt like Florence and her infernal Machine decide they're going to launch a career based on a rave classic... that "You Got The Love" cover she did was fucking disgusting... practically an X Factor-style, note-for-note remake, only for the whole thing you can feel the lack of Candi Staton's soul turning your balls to raisins.
On plagiarism through sampling, some of the most brazen examples were all the tunes using the acid techno riff from the Pump Panel version of New Order - Confusion after it got featured on the Blade soundtrack.
Original, New Order - Confusion (Pump Panel Remix) - I've not listened to this in years, but it used to GO.
These two were released in the SAME MONTH:
Public Domain - Operation Blade (only saving grace is the now incredibly played out Flava Flav sample)
Warp Bros - Phat Bass
And then a few years ago, Randy Katana proved he had privately been a total tnuc all these years by resurrecting it:

This is arguably happening tbh
For example the new LAS bits that everyone is hyping on (rightly so) + SYSTEM 004/002 (Smear Dub = 06 Coki) take a very similar approach in sound, groove & vibe to old-school dubstep.
Firepusher/Dem Break/Your Eyes/Pirates/Spry Sinister are v. close to Ancient Memories style Mala you could argue.
Was chatting to Donga & he's been playing out since 06 w/ever & he said if Firepusher had come out then he'd have rinsed it.
Reaction away from the clean/highly processed neuro tendencies of 'dungeon' back to warmth, ruggedness, groove and slightly off-kilter weirdness if anything.

I said this when Percy came out and they were playing a lot of similar stuff (Breen, Boofy ect)... I see all that stuff as a tribute to old (pre-grimeisdead) grime.. I don't think any of it is intentionally suppose to be groundbreaking new grime, just a tribute to the rough style of original grime but as you said "productions shinier".
With the other guys basically making trap or throwing up quickly made EPs on itunes and getting a shit hashtag going so all their borderline pop like fans beg them for retweets (JME is the king of this) its nice to see some original aesthetics in grime, people putting out older sounding stuff on vinyl.
Also Percy and similar tunes which I see as a tribute to old grime is better than the relentless eski click and pulse remixes that were being done 2012-13 by just about everybody.

agree with this 100%. No decent vocal grime these days really. all "throw it on itunes" grime.
