You sure you don't have that confused w/ YoshiToshi Records in Georgetown? AFAIK, the only Modern Music was in Baltimore, but they did have a sister clothing store called Modern Outfitters (they would sell a bunch of Feelgood's second-hand records in the back of the store too...lol).

Music Now...? That was a beautiful little store..The d+b sold quick though..

^^ maybe that was it. I'm pretty sure they were both on M st....or maybe even that was what Yoshitoshi was called at first...i can't remember.

Naw man it was called Bohemia Now in Georgetown. Prolla a name change. this was 94-95 ish. Yeah they had club clothes and stuff like that..then the other half was records.
I do remember Modern Music in Bmore though.

611 in Philadelphia. I had no idea what i was even doing. I just watched everyone else and followed their lead. I wasnt sure if i was supposed to put the records back after i was done with them or just leave them in the bin. I bought a bunch of Nu-Skool Breaks. I just played a few of them about a month ago - forgot i even had them.

4-front records in boston, RIP.. that was a dope spot. first thing i noticeed were the pictures of scotty static with like, every single one of the jungle dons all around the store.
first tracks i bought was like some jmj and richie joint and logical progression 2

Nope, there was a Modern Music in Georgetown on M Street, that is what Yoshitoshi became......
and Yoshitoshi closed down too...........but that place was pretty wack....

Bohmeia Now sounds familiar too, I just remember it had too names, one was Modern (Much??) Music for the record side of the store and the other name was the clothing store, I don't remember, but Bohemia Now sounds hella familair.
This was mid-90's......
either way, that seemed to be the spot in DC back in the day....

Up Tempo in Grimsby around 92 I think. Hardcore rave bizness. I used to go in and get flyers for Fantazia, Dreamscape and all that. I think the first thing I actually bought was some fantazia mix. Would've been Seduction, Easy Groove or Mikey C I reckon.

Lol yeah man it was called Bohemia/Music now? Something like that..My girl at the time worked there and they were the only place you could find jungle at back then.. (OMG before internet stores even!). Pretty small place by todays standards, no? So you were around in the DC/Baltimore Scene back then huh? Shit was nuts out there back then. Small world.

was the only spot I knew where to get DnB back then (and Tower Records). sux cuz i remember askin' for RAW/CRS? tapes only to get weird looks.....

My first time in a record store that specialized in DJ vinyl was late 2002, I believe. Evolving Records in Indianapolis, IN. I remember my first few times going in there high and being nervous as hell about using the listening stations - hands all shaky. One of the first dnb records I remember buying was Bad Company - Shot Down On Safari EP. The actual store is gone now, but the owner changed the name to Love Vinyl Records and runs the store out of his basement along with the
web shop.

It was pretty much everything that the other shop wasn't: dirty, disorganized, and with some of the friendliest (and funniest) staff. They sold everything from hip-hop to house to dnb to jazz. Also had a huge baltimore club section, and the owner put out club tunes on his own label. Alot of times when I would go there after work I would hear producers in there playing out their latest tunes over the house system. It was a place where music really felt alive, and a bunch of different scenes kind of collided into one.
Sadly, one night, Bernie (the owner) died in a car crash on the expressway....and the shop closed soon after. I still really miss that place.
Ayyyyeeeeee..... I used to live in BMORE where I went to school at MICA back in 98'. And I totally agree with you on both places. The Modern Music place fucking blew fat nutz compared to Liberated, and yes, I totally miss Liberated. I used to go there every week and dropp serious cash, Bernie was a cool fucking guy. They had the best house selection in that joint too, they only seemed to keep real stormers in stock, whereas Modern Music was a joke, plus those fucking guys that ran that place were a bunch of pricks, snob to the max. I loved how in Liberated, peepz would just roll in there, and talk shit, all the time, and it was hilarious, those guys were something else.....HAAAA...the memories. I really miss having a place to go to look for music..... alas, record stores in the USA seem to all go belly up quick, that shit has gone by the wayside....... I really don't enjoy the online buying experience the way I did with going to a store.......WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
