Everybody is a journo nowadays but you're targetting the wrong group imo. The onion is ok for what it is. I rarely read it though. Seems like an extension of like Colbert or the daily show that imo is also becomming a bit archaic.

People that listen to Bill Maher on the other hand.

bill can be snarky and it's funny, but he's not like that all the time and if you think he's just a snarky misogynist, you don't watch the show. laurence odonnell reminds me of my high school history teacher. he's boring as fuck. maher is the furthest thing from him personality wise, much funnier and he's better at proving a point than anyone else on tv except for Colbert imo.
