Because they used to act like dickheads doing it. Instead of letting the people they were trying to present themselves as let them show their self in an honest way, they'd make out they were a bunch of lazy pricks, stupid etc. It was used as a vehicle for denigrating a particular race to the point of banning it because it went far too far before.

I am black, but I don't recall raging about stereotypes tbh.

I understand that minstrels were being racist, pretty sure I expressed that, but I don't get why people find it so upsetting today. Like without wanting to be racist, someone seen in blackface in public will probably get jumped by both white and black people. But maybe they love it, maybe they appreciate it, maybe the want it for themselves, and I don't think any of those things are racist themselves, so why is it that they become associated with and overwhelmed by racism when expressed via blackface. At the end of the day, isn't it racist to assume someone is racist because of their skin colour?
